BY: Brian Blair

In the girls’ race, Danielle Hoop came across the finish line first to win the race in 20:34.57. Seventh-grader Julie Spaulding finished fifth with a time of 24:25.05. Rebels lose in Louisville

BY: Brian Blair

If it could go wrong for the Owen County Rebels on Friday night, it did. The Rebels made the trip to Louisville to play Christian Academy-Louisville in their final district game of the season. The Rebels came home with a 51-6 loss.
The Centurions scored on their first offensive possession and then intercepted Jordan Cox on the first offensive play for the Rebels and returned it for a touchdown.
Christian Academy would later score when two Owen County players ran into each other causing a fumble that was picked up and returned for a touchdown. The Centurions also returned a punt for a touchdown.
Coach Hockensmith said the team dug themselves an early hole, but the kids kept fighting. The coach said he was proud of the way his team kept their composure throughout the game.
The Rebels’ only score came on the last play of the game when Jordan Cox found Justin Stevens for a touchdown pass. The drive covered 96 yards after the Rebels defense, made up of junior varsity players, stopped Christian Academy on the goal line. Coach Hockensmith said the defensive stand was an encouraging sign that some of the younger players are getting better and learning how to make plays.
The loss means the Rebels must travel back to Louisville on Nov. 9 to play DeSales in the first round of the district playoffs. DeSales captured the top seed in the upcoming playoffs by beating Carroll County 35-14 on Friday night.
Owen County will wrap up the regular season this Friday night when they travel to play Trimble County. Coach Hockensmith said the Raiders have a big offensive line that usually runs over the opposition. He said the game plan may have changed some after Trimble County lost its best back a couple of weeks ago. Trimble County is coming off a 60-0 win on Friday night over Bracken County.
Game time on Friday night will be 7:30.
