Police
department makes
arrest
in burglary case
The Owenton Police Department
arrested two men in connection with a burglary that took place on
Sept. 25.
A trailer belonging to Terry Perry of 900 Gaines Village was broken
into and $200 worth of change and checks were taken.
Officer Tony Stigers said
there were no signs of forced entry.
Officer Rufus Shearer
Jr. worked the burglary and together he and Stigers worked the theft.
Stigers said the department
soon received a tip that one of the stolen checks was cashed, and
the suspect(s) had attempted to cash another at the BP gas station
on U.S. 127 in Frankfort.
The suspects were Matthew
Colston of Frankfort and David R. Wilhoite, who lives on U.S. 127.
Wilhoite had been living
in Perry’s house while Perry was not there.
Both men were arrested
and charged with second-degree possession of a forged instrument
in Franklin County.
When Wilhoite was arrested,
he was found in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia,
and now faces those charges as well.
Both men are convicted
felons out on parole. Wilhoite had two years left on his parole
and Colston had four.
They will be indicted
today by the Franklin County grand jury, because that is where the
check was cashed. Wilhoite’s drug charges will be brought
in court in Owen County.
The men were arrested
on Oct. 1 after warrants were issued.
Video surveilance at the
BP and statements from witnesses also helped the department solve
the case.

I was amazed with the
view the first time I drove into town.
The hills and farmland stretched for miles.
I love to drive. Not with destination in mind, but just taking random
turns and seeing what you can find. I grew up in southern Indiana,
and my hometown will always be special.
