Soccer Team Keeps Working

The results may not be want they want, but the Owen County boys soccer team keeps working hard. Over the past two weeks the team has had their share of ups and downs.
The ups include a second place finish in the Frankfort JV Invitational. The Rebels prevailed against Frankort in game one. The game went into a sudden death shootout after Blake Lewis, Clayton Cook, Taylor Davis and Chris Haines scored in the first shootout. In the sudden death it was Adam Bruner who netted his first attempt and keeper Justin Davis who made the save on the Frankfort kick to secure the win. Franklin County defeated the Rebels in the next game. Kyle Kelly, Adam Bruner and Taylor Davis were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The varsity team traveled to Calvary Christian on September 13 for a rematch against a team who beat the Rebels in the Owen County Invitational. Owen County found themselves in a 3-0 hole at the half. They battled back in the second half and cut the deficit to 3-2 on goals by Taylor Davis and Blake Lewis. The Rebels had several chances late that they were not able to convert and Calvary Christian got a score in the final minutes for the 4-2 win.
The Rebels then took part in the Frankfort Invitational where they played Grant County in the first game. The Rebels got on top early in the game on a goal by Matt Becker. Grant County would end up tying the game in the 33rd minute and the game would eventually end up in a shootout. In the shootout, Billy Payton saw the Grant County goalie make a tremendous save on his shot to give the Braves the win. Owen County would then take on Boyle County in the second game and drop a 6-0 decision.
Some of the downs included a loss to one of the best teams in the state in Woodford County and another to Anderson County. The Rebels would also drop a 2-0 contest to Anderson County.
The Rebels will travel to Dry Ridge for a match against Grant County on Thursday. The match will get underway at 5:30.

Two More Wins For Lady Rebels

The Lady Rebels golf team finished out the regular season with two wins last week. The two victories meant Owen County finished the year with a record of 17-4 in nine hole matches.
On Monday the Lady Rebels traveled to Juniper Hills to take on Frankfort. Krista Power shot a 43 to lead Owen County. Jensen Wainscott and Lynsey Farrar each shot 51 while Shelby Power posted a 53.
