Rebels Drop District Opener

It was not the kind of start to District play the Rebels had in mind. The DeSales Colts came into Owen County on Friday and left with a 42-0 win.
Things got off to a bad start for Owen County and the Rebels never recovered. Myles Poole took the ball on the second play of the game 54 yards and an extra point later the Colts were on the scoreboard with a 7-0 lead. The Rebels went three and out on their opening possession and were forced to punt the ball back to DeSales. The Colts would take advantage as they went on a 73 yard drive which again ended in the end zone. After another extra point, DeSales led 14-0 with 5:13 to play in the first quarter.

He has made the All-Conference team every year he has been in high school. This year, his senior year, KyleSmither won the Conference Tournament. Smither shot a four over par 76 at Perry Park to help propel the Rebels to second place finish in the NCKC Tournament last Thursday. For his efforts, Smither was named Most Valuable Player.

Blake Traylor posted an 83 and also made the All-Conference team. Sixth-grader Jarrod Ball shot an 86, seventh-grader Zach Ripy shot 91 and freshman Colton New posted a 92.
Not only was Coach Webster pleased with his seniors, but also had high praise for his younger players. “I have taken Juniors and Seniors to Conference before and had them shoot 100. These young kids kept their composure well, battled the elements and were very successful on a long course.”
Earlier in the week, the Rebels defeated Frankfort and Covington Latin. The two wins gave the team a 9-8 record for the regular season. Against Frankfort, Blake Traylor earned medalist honors by shooting a 41. Colten New was medalist against Covington Latin with a round of 37 at Fairway Golf Course.
Owen County participated in the Regional Tournament on Monday at Boone Links Golf Course.
