Health
Department extends heat alert
Last week, Three Rivers
District Health Department declared a heat alert.
A heat alert
indicates that, due to current or predicted weather conditions,
vulnerable individuals may be at risk for heat-related illness.
Individuals who are most at risk include the elderly, the homeless,
and persons whose chronic illnesses decrease their ability to respond
to heat stresses (heart and kidney disease, high blood pressure,
recent stroke, diarrhea, mental illness).
Alcohol and
certain medications (antidepressants, diuretics, antihistamines,
and more) increase risk for heat-related illness as well. Persons
employed outdoors, such as construction workers and roofers, make
up another group at risk for heat stress. Infants and small children
are also at greater risk.

Blood Drive
is
Friday
“Blood
donation help save lives.” That’s a claim you often
hear from Central Kentucky Blood Center. But it is more than just
words, it’s a fact of life, and behind those words are real
people - fellow Kentuckians whose lives have been impacted by what
blood donors did for them.
Take Gary
King, for example, Gary had his legs severed and his pelvis crushed
in a terrible tractor accident on his Scott County farm and required
a miracle and 210 pints of blood over several months to survive.
Today, Gary is healthy, works full time and has a loving family
and friends.
