GED test is Friday
The next GED test for Owen County is Friday. Anyone interested in taking the test should contact the Adult Learning Center at 484-0405 or come by the center. If you have taken the GED but have one or more sections to retake, you can complete the test on Feb. 23.


Library has programs for all ages
The library will offer an Adult Computer Class from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday. The class will focus on learning how to compose letters or type a resume in Microsoft Word. Registration is required. At Free Family Fun Night on Monday, Ceol Cridhe will be there to play traditional music from Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales. The program is sponsored by the Kentucky Arts Council and begins at 6:30 p.m. Teens will make a beaded bracelet during Teen Beads at the library from 3:45 to 4:45 on Tuesday. Materials are provided but registration is required. For more information about any of the programs or to register, call 484-3450.


Walkers needed for
Congenital Heart Defect event

The “Walk for Awareness of Congenital Heart Defects” will be held at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. An information packet may be picked up at the Owen County Extension Office, Gallatin County Extension Office or Grant County Judge-Executive’s office. Contact Katie Columbia at (502) 463-2450 if you would like a packet to be mailed to you or for more information. Everyone is invited to participate. Money raised from the event will benefit CHD research at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and a local organization called “God’s Special Little Hearts, Inc.” that helps families affected by congenital heart defects.


E-Slate voting machine will be at library

County Clerk Joan Kincaid will be at the Owen County Public Library from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday with the E-Slate voting machine. Stop by and try the voting machine.
BMS is selling discount eating cards
Bowling Middle School is selling discount eating cards during the month of February. The cards are for Northern Kentucky, Frankfort, Lexington and Subway. Each card is $10. Anyone interested in purchasing a card should contact any middle school student or Marsha Derringer at 484-2189.

Mandarin Language class will be offered
There will be a four-week Mandarin Language class offered for the community starting March 5 and running consecutively every Monday through March. The class will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Owen County Elementary School Library. The class will be taught by Lu Wang and there is a charge of $25 per participant. You must be registered before you can attend the first class. For more information and to register for the class, call Kathy Resetar, Community Education Director, at 484-4011.

Adult Education Program offers
job readiness classes

The Owen County Adult Education Program is offering classes in job readiness skills. The program includes resume writing, interviewing skills, beginning computer skills and more. For more information, contact the Adult Education Center at 484-0405
