OBITUARIES


Bobbie Kanatzer, 64

Bobbie Susan Kanatzer, 64, of Owenton, died June 14, 2007, at the New Horizons Medical Center. Born Aug. 12, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Jim Tandy and Christine Spuyer Kanatzer. She was a former employee of Owenton Manor and was a caregiver to many in the community. She was a member of the Owenton First Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Becky Jacobs and Hope Suttles both of Owenton; one son, Scotty Kanatzer of Owenton; three brothers, Dale Kanatzer and Hayde Kanatzer, both of Shelbyville, and Roby Kanatzer of Georgia.; two sisters, Goldie Crawford and Nora Lane of Shelbyville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held June 18, 2007, with Bro. David Wotier officiating. Burial was in Owenton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to help cover funeral expenses.

Olivia Pearl Gaines, 74

Olivia Pearl Atha Gaines, 74, of Owenton, died June 16, 2007, at her residence in Monterey. Born October 9, 1932, she was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Orsborne Atha and married the late Freddie Gaines on November 5, 1948. She was once the owner of a restaurant in Monterey and was a member of Monterey Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her son, Samuel Gaines; her daughter, Regina Beckham; a brother, Woody Atha; and her sister, Leota Derringer.
She is survived by her son, Larry Gaines of Hamilton, Ohio; her daughter, Marsha Heller of New York; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held today, June 20, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the McDonald & New Funeral Homes, Main Street location. Pastor Tony Watkins will be officiating. Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the New Life Baptist Mission, 415 Henry Street, Hamilton, Ohio 45011.

Jesse Pierce, 45

Jesse Pierce, 45, of Sparta, died June 17, 2007, at the St. Elizabeth South Hospital. He was the son of the late Samuel Howard and Janette Rich Pierce. He is survived by a brother, Richard Fossitt, Jr. of Covington.
Funeral services were held June 19, 2007, with the Rev. David Wotier officiating. Burial was in Glencoe Cemetery.

Edna Kelley Lathrem, 90,

Edna Kelley Lathrem, 90, of Owenton died June 16, 2007 at Harborside Healthcare. Born July 11, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Florida Duvall Goodrich. She was wife to the late Bill Lathrem, and worked in dispatch for the Kentucky State Police. She was a member of Owenton First Christian Church, Owen County Senior Citizens, and the Red Hat Society.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Kelley, and her half-sister, Opal Judy.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Mike Kelley and Michelle Dunavant, both of Owenton; and four great-grandchildren, Katy and Alexis Kelley, and Logan and Brie Dunavent.
Funeral services were June 19, 2007, with Bro. Wayne Kelly officiating. Burial was in Owenton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Owenton Christian Church Building fund.
