Mother's Day brings back different memories this year

This past Mother’s Day was the first since my mother’s death, and it was strange for me. I’m not used to being an orphan. Maybe Mother’s absence at the table, however, is the reason I thought of you. Leastwise, I’ve never stopped to think about you on Mother’s Day before. No, not once in thirty-six years. I’m sorry, but that’s the truth, and I can’t change it. That first year, I didn’t think about you on purpose. Then by the next, we were holding your sister in our arms.
