Mad Science
program is Thursday
The Owen County Library will present Mad Science of Kentucky at 2 p.m. on Thursday. The program will be a detective science and crime workshop for school-aged children. The program is free and registration is required.

Bingo offered at Senior Center Thursday

Thursday at 1 p.m. there will be Bingo at the Senior Center

Senior Center offers daily exercise
Every Monday beginning June 18, Pam Bihl will lead an hour of exercise from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

‘Battle of the Bands’ is Friday
The Owen County Teen Alcohol Prevention Project (TAPP) will be sponsoring a Summerfest and Battle of the Bands at 7 p.m. Friday. The event will be held at Hwy. 127-S near Monterey, behind the Monterey Fire Department. Admission is free and food will be provided. Local teen bands may perform. It is asked that anyone who attends brings a food or clothing donation to the Meeting the Needs Ministry. Anyone who would like to showcase their band or has any other questions, call 484-8539.

Yard Sale and Bake Sale are June 23

A yard sale and bake sale will be held at Monterey Market on June 23 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Monterey Baptist Church Mission Trip to New Orleans.

Class of ‘55 reunion is June 30
The Class of 1955 reunion will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 30 at the Country Grill in Dry Ridge.

Adult Education Center needs donations
The Owen County Adult Education Center is asking for donations for their yard sale, which will be held at the center on July 14. If you have items you would like to donate please call Veronica or Fannie at the Adult Learning Center at 484-0405, or drop items off at the Center at 60 Old Monterey Road. All donations are tax deductible. Proceeds from the yard sale will help support the literacy program.

Health series will be offered on Mondays

The Owen County Extension Service, in conjunction with Three Rivers District Health, will be offering a series called “Get Moving Kentucky:  Get Moving Owen County.”  The series runs Mondays from now until June 25, from 10 a.m. until noon. Each session you will be served a healthy snack, learn how to maintain weight and take a walk on the track. Call the extension office for more information.

Head Start accepting applications

Head Start is now accepting applications for the 2007-08 school year. Children must be 3 years old by Oct. 1. For an appointment call Paula Bond at 484-4249.

Senior Events DVD is now available

Those who ordered a Senior Events DVD for the Class of 2007 may now pick those up at the high school.

Students to work on calendar

STEP (Student Technology Entrepreneur Productions) will produce a 2008 calendar as a fund-raiser for the 2008 Project Graduation. The theme of the calendar will be the natural beauty of Owen County. In August STEP will conduct a contest to select 12 photos for the calendar. All amateur photographers are encouraged to get out and shoot some photos for this contest.

Class of ‘75 reunion is Aug. 17

The Class of 1975 will hold a reunion from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Owen County Extension Office. Call Sheila Stewart for details at 484-0883.

Class of ‘77 reunion is Nov. 10

Police will conduct roadblocks

Owenton Police will be conducting periodic roadblocks during the next few months.
