MBMS PTO is
accepting nominations
The Maurice Bowling Middle School PTO is currently accepting nominations
for the two parent representative vacancies on the SBDM Council.
Nominations will be accepted through Saturday. Nomination forms
have been sent home with fifth-, sixth- and seventh-grade students.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the council, please
complete the form and mail it to Rebecca Ogden, 45 Taylor St.,
Monterey, KY 40359. You may contact Ms. Odgen at 484-4482 or e-mail
her at rebecca.odgen@education.ky.gov. If elected, a six-hour
training is required. The term begins July 1, 2007, and ends June
30, 2008. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at
4 p.m.
SBDM, PTO accepting nominations
The Primary and Elementary Site -Based Decision Making Council
and PTO are currently accepting nominations for parent representatives
for the 2007-2008 school year. The elections for OCPS will be
held on Tuesday during the Mother’s Day luncheon and elections
for OCES will be held May 10 during the Mother’s Day luncheon.

Christian preschool accepting applications
The Owen County Christian Preschool is currently accepting applications
for the three- and four-year-olds. You may pick up enrollment
packets at First Baptist Church or call 484-2430 with any questions.
Kindergarten graduation DVDs available
Owen County Primary is now taking orders for Kindergarten graduation
DVDs. Call Billie Smith at 484-4052.
Gently used caps and gowns needed
Owen County Preschool and Headstart need donations of old or gently
used caps and gowns. If interested, call 484-8816.
Baseball league sign-ups have begun
Players and/or teams interested in playing in the 18 years and
up baseball league can register or inquire by calling Juney Arnold
at (502)682-7020 or leave message at (502)223-2846. Games will
begin June 2 in Frankfort.
Buckeye Donkey Basketball tomorrow
Project Graduation will host Buckeye Donkey Basketball in the
Bowling Middle School gym at 7 p.m. tomorrow. There will be free
donkey rides for children through sixth grade accompanied by a
paying adult. Advanced tickets can be purchased at any of the
schools for $5. Admission is $7 at the door.
Silent auction will benefit Relay
Peoples Bank is holding a silent auction until Friday in their
lobby. The auction will benefit Relay for Life.
Davis to hold meetings for District 3
Theresa Davis, District 3 magistrate will hold several meetings
this month. A meeting will be held at Donna’s Diner at 11
a.m. Sunday. Two meetings will be held on May 12: one is at Young
Old Store at 10 a.m. and the other is at Kemper’s Small
Engine at 1 p.m.
Board to check voting machines May 14
The Owen County Board of Elections will inspect all voting machines
for the primary election on May 14 at 9:30 a.m. in the County
Clerk’s office.
Paper absentee ballot deadline May 15
The deadline for paper absentee ballots is May 15. Those who are
disabled or unable to go to the precinct on Election Day must
apply for a ballot by then. Absentee voting began in the County
Clerk’s office yesterday.
Cornhole tournament is May 26
Dallasburg Baptist Church’s Relay Team will host a cornhole
and wiffleball tournament at the Owen County Fairgrounds on May
26. Registration begins at 2 p.m.
Williamstown Alumni Banquet is May 26
The Williamstown Alumni Banquet will be held May 26 at the Williamstown
High School Gym. Registration is at 5:30 p.m. and dinner is at
6:30 p.m. The classes of 1947, 1957, 1967, 1975, 1982, 1987, 1992,
1997 and 2007 graduates will be honored. Reservations may be made
on or before May 22 with Patsy Kinman, 310 Falmouth St., Williamstown,
KY 41097. The cost of the dinner is $15 per plate. Call (859)823-1941
with any questions.
Prom formalwear and donations needed
Ladies, we are now accepting gently used formal dresses and accessories.
Donations are also needed to help with additional prom expenses,
dry cleaning, etc. Drop off your donated items with Diana O’Toole
at the Owen County HIgh School or by contacting Dana Gill at 484-2618.
Prom Closet will offer formal gowns
If you are a teenager in need of a dress for homecoming, prom,
or any other special event, the Prom Closet can help. The Prom
Closet Project distributes gowns twice a year for Prom and Class
Night. During both seasons you can set up an appointment to shop
for your very own dress. This is completely free of charge. Just
contact Mrs. O’Toole at OCHS, 484-4269; or Dana Gill at
484-2618.
Game Show Night is June 2
Dallasburg Baptist Church’s Relay Team will host a Game
Show Night at the Wheatley Community Center on June 2. They will
begin serving dinner at 5:30 p.m. and games will begin at 7 p.m.
County awarded FEMA money
Owen County has been awarded $5,020 in FEMA money for 2007. If
you are interested in applying for the funds, you will need to
be a nonprofit agency. If you have any questions, please call
