Police confiscate 131 pot plants

131 marijuana plants, valued at about $184,000, were seized from a residence May 1. The Owen County Sheriff’s Department made the arrest and the suspect will be in court on Friday.

The Owen County Sheriff’s Department confiscated 131 marijuana plants at a residence in Timberwood Lake last Tuesday.
One person was arrested and charged around 3 p.m., but the sheriff’s department declined to release the person’s name until the suspect appears in court.
Sheriff Zemer Hammond said the street value of the marijuana was about $184,000.


Kentucky American Water applies for rate change

Would lower bills in county if approved by PSC

Owen County residents could see a drop in their water bills if a proposed rate change by Kentucky American Water is approved by the state Public Service Commission (PSC).
The company filed an application last week to establish a single-tier billing rate for customers in its northern and central divisions.


Four first responders honored

City Council recognizes efforts in April 13 fire

Owenton City Council members recognized three firefighters and one police officer at a council meeting last week for going above and beyond the call of duty.
Owenton Fire Chief David Lilly, firefighters Shane Perkins and Brian Riddle, and Owenton police officer Tony Stigers, were each given plaques of recognition from the council.
The awards resulted from their efforts during an apartment fire on April 13.


It's time for the Grand March again

Pre-prom tradition goes back to 1951

Students attending the Owen County Prom this Friday night will participate in a tradition going back more than 50 years.
On Thursday, those juniors and seniors going to the prom, along with their dates, will learn the Grand March. They will then perform it for their family and friends before they leave for the prom on Friday night.


Family Movie Night set

for June 2

Idea evolved from 20/20 meetings

The first Family Movie Fun Night will be held June 2 at the Owen County Park.
Sponsored by Owen County Parks and Recreation and the Inflatable Fun Factory, the idea for the event came from Owen 20/20 Vision meetings and a similar event held in Carroll County..



Local drivers compete in Bus Rodeo

Several Owen County bus drivers competed in a regional bus rodeo during the weekend of April 28, and one of the drivers wrangled up a top-three finish.
The event, held at Bullitt Central High School in Shepherdsville, included drivers from Bullitt, Shelby, Henry, Scott, Oldham, Carroll, Trimble, Spencer, Gallatin, Grant and Anderson counties, in addition to four drivers from Owen County.


Satterwhite Shamble Fund-raising

Judge-Executive Billy O’Banion presents Lisa Riddle with a check for the Senior Center’s activity fund. The money raised from the Charlie Satterwhite Memorial Golf Shamble – $9,065 this year – was split between the Owen County Senior Center’s activity fund and the Satterwhite Foundation under the Kentucky Circuit Clerks’ Trust For Life organization.
