Howard
graduates from WKU

Neesa Howard is a 4-year
Dean’s List and President’s Scholar graduating with
the honor of Summa Cum Laude. She is getting a Bachelor of Science
in Education at Western Kentucky University. Commencement exercises
will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday in EA Diddle Arena.
She is an active member and secretary of the Xi Pi chapter of
Kappa Delta Pi and is graduating with a GPA of 3.9.
Neesa plans to remain in Bowling Green to pursue a position in
a K-6 classroom. She also plans to attend graduate school at WKU
for a master’s degree to become a Library Media Specialist.
Doolin
receives scholarship

Matthew
J. Doolin has been awarded a $500 educational award in a national
competition with other students who are members of Modern Woodmen
of America. Modern Woodmen, a fraternal benefit society offering
financial services, has local representatives and is based in
Rock Island, Ill.
Doolin, the son of Jerry and Rebecca Doolin of Owenton, plans
to use the grant to attend Georgetown College, Georgetown. Doolin
is one of 100 grant winners chosen this year.
During the past 38 years, Modern Woodmen has committed millions
of dollars in financial assistance to hundreds of students through
its Fraternal Scholarship Program.
Applications for the 2007-2008 Scholarship Program will be accepted
in the fall of 2007.
Founded in 1883 as a fraternal benefit society, Modern Woodmen
of America offers financial services and fraternal member benefits
to individuals and families throughout the United States.

Durham
completes nursing degree

Heather
Ruth Durham of Owenton will be pinned May 11, 2007, for completing
a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing. She will be pinned
by Beth Baker, RN in the ER at New Horizons Medical Center, and
Robin Underberg, Harborside’s Dietary Manager.
Heather returned to school in 1997 to earn a degree as a Registered
Nurse. This BSN is now her second bachelor’s degree. She
was recognized as a Nursing Academic Award winner, and appeared
on the Dean’s list by maintaining a 3.488 G.P.A.
She attributes her success to Bernie Poe, who has supported her
academic ambitions. The fact that Heather turned 47 this past
Monday makes her success all the more sweet.
Owenton
woman chosen to address EKU graduates

RICHMOND,
Ky. – An Owenton woman has been selected to speak on behalf
of her fellow graduates at Eastern Kentucky University’s
spring commencement.
Kara Patterson, a graduate of Owen County High School and the
daughter of Donna Judy and Kevin Patterson, will address graduates
in the College of Arts & Sciences and Business & Technology
at 10 a.m. in Alumni Coliseum. Ceremonies for students in EKU’s
other academic colleges will begin at 3 p.m.
Patterson, who’ll be receiving a bachelor’s degree
in communication studies, boasts a 3.43 GPA and has been active
in numerous campus organizations, including Kappa Alpha Theta,
which she served as vice president; Student Alumni Ambassadors;
and Order of Omega. She also has served as a leader of Orientation
and New Student Days.
