A lot of people are
concerned about where the money goes.
With close to $70,000 raised by the efforts of the Owen County Relay
for Life event last year, they should know.
Relay for Life is a nationwide event held by the American Cancer
Society.
Though the venues may be different, each event has a common goal:
to raise money for cancer research.
According to information from ACS, they have “given more than
$3.1 billion to support cancer research since 1946.”

It’s
that time of year again.
Owen County students began taking this year’s Commonwealth
Accountability Testing System — or CATS — assessment
on Monday and will continue testing for the next two weeks.
The CATS
test determines how well students are learning and understanding
core content. Depending on the grade level, students are tested
on a variety of different materials, including on-demand writing,
reading, math, open response writing. For the high school, things
such as drop-out and retention rates are among those areas assessed.
Owenton
police made two arrests in connection with windows being broken
at two downtown businesses earlier this month, charging two juveniles.
And, during the investigation, officers learned of another alleged
criminal act that resulted in felony sodomy charges against an 18-year-old
Owen County man.
