Disappointing week
for Rebels

By Brian Blair
NH Correspondent

The Owen County baseball team did not repeat as All “A” Champs for the 8th Region. The Rebels fell to Carroll County 2-1 on Thursday in Owenton.
Both teams battled the elements and it took its toll on both offenses. Owen County managed only three hits in the game while Michael Ogden limited the Panthers to just two base runners through the first six innings. Each of the runners ended up being picked off base by Ogden.
The only scoring in the game came in the seventh inning. Carroll County was able to push across both runs on just two hits. One run scored on a Rebel error and the other scored when a Panther was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Rebels were able to score a run in the bottom of the seventh on a Carroll County error. It was not enough.
“We just didn’t hit,” said Coach Robert Osborne. He talked about the cold weather, but said it was cold for both teams. Owen County managed to get the lead-off hitter on base in both the first and third innings, but neither runner made it past second base.
Owen County opened up last week by defeating Grant County 8-0 on April 9. Jared Perkins hit his second grand slam of the season in the fourth inning to break the game open. Perkins also had an RBI double in the first inning to get the scoring started. The senior also scored three runs. Trey Lenear was the winning pitcher. Lenear pitched the first five innings striking out eight and allowing one hit. Michael Ogden pitched the final two innings allowing no hits and striking out three.
The Rebels traveled to Anderson County on April 10 where they were defeated 13-3. Anderson County scored four runs in both the first and second innings and then closed out the game by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Perkins continued his solid season at the plate by hitting a two-run double in the third inning. Matt Harris drove in the Rebels’ other run.
Owen County now has five wins on the season with two losses. The Rebels will be in action at Williamstown at 5 p.m. on Thursday and at home on Saturday when they battle Henry County.

Lady Rebel softball falls to Trimble

By BRIAN BLAIR

NH Correspondent

The Lady Rebels welcomed Trimble County to Owenton on April 10. The Lady Raiders were not polite guests. Trimble County defeated Owen County 7-0.
Trimble County got on the board in the first inning and then added five more runs in the third. All five runs crossed the plate after the Lady Rebels had recorded two outs. The Lady Raiders added another run in the fifth inning.
Owen County was held to three hits. Jensen Wainscott and Cassie Hamilton singled to begin the third inning but the Lady Rebels were unable to drive them home. Hamilton added another single in the bottom of the fifth.
The Lady Rebels now have a record of eight wins and three losses on the season.
The team will be back in action today at home against Grant County at 5 p.m. They will travel to Williamstown on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. game. The Lady Rebels begin play in the All “A” Classic on Saturday at Emminence. Owen County’s opening game will be against Carroll County at 10:30 a.m. Coach Wainscott’s team will then welcome Carroll County to Owenton for a game at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Owenton.
