Eunice Cohorn, 88

Eunice Hearn Cohorn, 88, of Sparta, died April 10, 2007, at the Gallatin Health Care Facility, Warsaw.
Born March 11, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Caviness and Mary Arnold Hearne. Mrs. Cohorn was a homemaker and a member of the Poplar Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Cohorn, and her siblings, William “Bill” and Albion Arnold Hearne, Nellie Hearne Shields, Millie Kate Hicks and Jenny Mary Fancote.
Mrs. Cohorn is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Cohorn of Sparta; two daughters, Donna Joyce Cammack of Sparta and Carol Ann Cook of Frankfort; three grandchildren, Billy Cook, Cynthia Hecker and Tim Cammack; and four great-grandchildren, Kristin and Matthew Hecker, Noah Rees and Nash Curtis Cammack.
Funeral services were held April 12 at the McDonald & New Funeral Home with Bro. Adam Polk presiding. Burial was in Poplar Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Poplar Grove Cemetery Fund.

Donald Poore, 52

Donald Ralph Poore, 52, died April 10, 2007, at the Carroll County Hospital.
Born September 6, 1954, he was the son of Luther Allen Poore and Patricia L. Staley Poore, who survive. Donald was a retired employee of Kahn’s Meats, now known as Sara Lee. He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Poore, and one sister, Sharon Poore.
Donald is survived by his wife, Lela Glore Poore of Sparta; a son, Donald Ralph Poore, Jr. of Goshen, Ohio; a daughter, Trina Louis Poore of Goshen, Ohio; three brothers, James Poore and William Poore, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Bill Poore of Covington; two sisters, Elizabeth Poore of Pineville, and Sue Ramsey of Cincinnati, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at April 14 at Garnett-New-McDonald Funeral Home with Bro. Denny French officiating. Burial was in Warsaw Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Gallatin County EMS.

 

William  B. Simpson, 87,

William  B. Simpson, 87, of New Columbus, died April 11, 2007, at his residence. He was born in New Columbus to Byron O. and Vera Morgan Simpson.  He was a farmer and a World War II Army veteran.  He was a member and deacon of the New Columbus Baptist Church where he was also the former treasurer.  He was the caretaker of New Columbus Cemetery for more than 50 years.  He was a director of the former Corinth Deposit Bank and was an appraiser for that bank.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Louise Robinson Simpson; two daughters, Sue Henage of New Columbus and Teresa Hawes of Rockdale; a son, William Steve Simpson of New Columbus; a sister, Justine Shearer of Lexington; a brother, Harold Simpson of Lexington; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted April 14 at the New Columbus Baptist Church with the Rev. Brad Vincent officiating.  Burial was in New Columbus Cemetery. 
Memorials are suggested to the cemetery, in care of McDaniel Funeral Home, P.O. Box 7, Corinth, Ky. 41010.

Irene Burford, 79

Irene Burford, 79, of Owenton, died Saturday, April 14, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Hospital South, in Edgewood.
Born March 21, 1928, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Bessie Poe Stewart. She worked as a cook at the Owen County hospital for 17 years and wrote a weekly article for The News-Herald for more than 30 years. Mrs. Burford was preceded in death by her siblings Kenneth, Willard, Buddy and Herman Stewart, Mary Frances Kelso, Velma Hawkins, Missy Gibson and Laura Brock.
Mrs. Burford is survived by her husband Marvin Burford; her son, Randy Burford of Owenton; her daughter, Patty Whobrey of Sparta; four grandchildren, Andi, Allie, Tracey and Kevin; and two great-granddaughters, Brittany and Morgan.
Arrangements were handled by McDonald & New Funeral Homes. Funeral services were held April 17 with Bro. Steve Delaney presiding. Burial was in Owenton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Beechgrove Baptist Church.

Dorothy Smith, 89

Nannie Dorothy Shelton Cook Smith, 89, of Owenton, died Sunday, April 15, 2007, at the New Horizon Medical Center.
Born April 6, 1918, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Vest and Phoeby Keith Shelton and was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Cook; step-son Bobby Wainscott; and sisters, Flora Barberick, Lora Hensley and Dehlia Hunter Beckham. She was a member of the Baptist faith, was a housekeeper at the post office and individual homes for many years, and worked for Dr. Scholl’s Shoe Factory.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 23 years, L.D. “Pete” Smith; her daughter and husband, Freda Cook Prather and Roy Prather, Jr., of Owenton; her step-daughter and husband, Teri and Michael Bennett, of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Nancy Prather Boisseau and husband, Michael, of Owenton, and David Prather and wife, Heather, of Danville; step-grandchildren, Vicky Georgeiev, Ricky, Bill, John and Jamie Wainscott, of Carrollton, Michael Bennett, of Crittenden, and Janette Bennett, of Cincinnati, Ohio; four great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; step-great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being handled by McDonald & New Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. April 19 with Bro. Jesse Bourn presiding. Burial will be in Owenton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Harborside Healthcare Activities Fund or the New Horizons Medical Center.
