Boards have taken the place of windows in two Owen County businesses.
Windows in both Summer’s Styles Unlimited and Family Billiards were found broken early last Wednesday.
Owenton Police Officer Gary Alcorn said the incidents likely occurred sometime between midnight and 4 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Alcorn also said it was likely that the damage was run-of-the-mill vandalism by teens or young adults.
Summer’s employees didn’t find out about it until early Wednesday morning. A call was made to some of the employees telling them about the damage. They are closed on every other Wednesday, but happened to be open this particular day. A piece of concrete was thrown through their window, leaving a hole and damaging items in their window display.
Summer Bruce-Smith, who owns Summer’s Styles Unlimited, said when she got there, she found shattered glass all through the salon, and part of the concrete block was still in the display area.
Police came and took fingerprints and it was at that time Summer’s employees were told of the vandalism at Family Billiards. “Nothing like this has happened (to us) before,” Bruce-Smith said.
Family Billiards owner Ralph Toole said he has no idea who may have done it.
The Owenton Police Department is following up on a couple of leads, including one that was received on Thursday afternoon.
Police Chief Terry Gentry said there were some suspects as of press time, but the department knew nothing definite yet.
Anyone with information can contact Officer Alcorn at 484-2313, ext. 25.
