Yates, 87
William Howard Yates,
87, of Warsaw, died March 29, 2007. He was the son of the late
Lawrence and Grace Keene Yates. He was the husband of the late
Nannie Brown Yates. Mr. Yates was a WWII Army Veteran and a member
of the Warsaw Consolidated 2nd Baptist Church. He was retired
from the Warsaw Water Works where he worked as commissioner for
39 years.
Mr. Yates is survived by a son, Kenneth Yates of Redondo Beach,
Calif.; four daughters, Linda Scott of Covington, Karen Sebree,
Ruth Smith, and Rhonda Yates, all of Florence; one step-sister,
Marcetta Snell of Ohio. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and
22 great-grandchildren. Mr. Yates was preceded in death by his
son, William G. Yates and his sister, Roberta Kelly.
Funeral services were held April 3, 2007, at the Warsaw Consolidated
2nd Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Nevels officiating. Pallbearers
were Ed Brown, Carl Travis, Chuck Travis, Clarence Ware, Frank
Sanders, Connie Green, Melvin Smith and Lee Green. Honorary pallbearers
were Chris Nevels, Ben Nevels, Joe Brown, George Brown, Mitchell
Sanders, Eugene Harris, Willie Nevels and John Webb. Donations
may be made to Warsaw Consolidated 2nd Baptist Church.
Charlie
O'Brien 85
Charlie M. O’Brien,
85 of Gratz, died March 30, 2007, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
He was a native of Henry County, son of the late David and Cordie
Cox O’Brien, member of Lockport Baptist Church, school bus
driver for Henry County school system, farmer and a WWII Army
Veteran where he earned the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct
Ribbon and Victory Medal.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Carter O’Brien of Gratz;
a daughter, Judy Hall of Frankfort; three brothers, Tom O’Brien
of Owenton, Guthrie O’Brien of Lockport, and Eugene O’Brien
of Bethlehem; a sister, Mary O’Brien of Bethlehem; a grandchild;
and a great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by five brothers.
Services were held April 1, 2007, at Sholar Funeral Home in Pleasureville
with the Rev. Wayne Kelly of Lockport Baptist Church officiating.
Burial was in Pleasureville Cemetery with military honors. Honorary
bearers included Jim Fisher and Woody Parrish. Casket bearers
included Danny Carter, John Carter, Mike Fisher, Brandon Marshall,
Andy Lee Carter, John Hall and Fred Snider.

Charlie
LeCompte
Charlie B. LeCompte
of Batavia, Ohio, formerly from Owen County, died unexpectedly
at his home on March 20, 2007. He was born in Henry County, the
youngest son of Russell and Ama Burns LeCompte. He retired from
the state of Ohio and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley Hawkins LeCompte,
of Batavia, Ohio; a son, Charles Thomas; a daughter and son-in-law,
Jennifer and Steve Phelps; four sisters, Margaret Hannahs of Valley
Station, Mary Louise Mullinex of Sharonville, Ohio, Doris Seaman
of West Union, Ohio, and Lois Angst of West Chester, Ohio; three
grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in
death by his parents and two brothers, James LeCompte and Shelby
LeCompte of the Lusby’s Mill community.
Abiding by his wishes, a private viewing was held for the family.

Johnnie Tacket, 97
Johnnie Tackett, 97, of Owenton, died March 30, 2007, at her residence.
Born October 27, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Porter
and Sallie Fortner Harris and the widow of Florian Tackett. She
was also preceded in death by her sister, Lillian Davis. She was
the oldest member of the Sparta Christian Church and worked for
over 40 years at both Sparta-Sanders Bank and the Farmers Bank
of Warsaw.
She is survived by her nephew, John Porter Davis and a host of
friends.
Honorary bearers were Pat Harrison, Carvin Baker, Clifford Smith
and Ricky Williams. Pallbearers were Tom McDonald, Darrell Traylor,
Bobby O’Banion, Jimmy Sutherland, Paul Smoot and Bill Dunavent.
Funeral services were held April 2, 2007, at the McDonald and
New Funeral Home with Bro. David Wotier presiding. Burial was
in Owenton Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Sparta Christian
Church.
