Fiscal Court to hold ‘budget workshop’ today
Owen County Fiscal Court will meet from noon to 2 p.m. today at the courthouse to begin discussion on a budget for the 2008 fiscal year. Judge-Executive Billy O’Banion referred to the meeting as a “budget workshop” and said no action will be taken during the session, which is open to the public. He said additional budget meetings will be held in April, if needed.

Historical Society will meet tomorrow
The Owen County Historical Society Board will meet tomorrow night at 6:30 at the museum. The society is also looking for old toys for boys for the childrens’’ room. They need an old red wagon, baseball or softball glove, ball and bat, cowboy hat, pistol and old clothes little cowboys would wear. Garbage Can Band performs Monday
Everyone is invited to the Free Family Fun Night at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the library when the Garbage Can Band performs. Bring an instrument made from recycled material and join the fun. Teen Beads, for ages 10 and up will make earrings on Tuesday from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Registration is required. Join the computer age by signing up for free basic computer classes at the library from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on April 2. Call 484-3450 to register for a program or for more information. Public forum is Tuesday
The Owen County School system will hold a public forum to discuss building projects and local planning at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the OCHS auditorium.
Project Graduation meeting is March 29
There will be a Project Graduation meeting at 6:30 p.m March 29. in the Owen County Elementary School library. Topics for discussion include which parents will be attending, who wants to order shirts, getting ready for Donkey Basketball and finalizing all plans for the event. Workshop on childs’ behavior will be held on March 29
Speaker Tim Murphy from Northern Kentucky will conduct a workshop on bringing out your child’s best behavior on March 29 at the Owen County Primary School library from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Appetizers will be served. The class is hosted by Community Education, KEYS and 21st Century CLC. Call 484-4011 for more information.

Storyteller and folk musician performs on March 30
The Owen County Elementary School Art Committee presents storyteller and folk musician Richard “Dick” Albin. He will be performing at the Owen County Public Library on March 30 at 7:00 p.m. Albin specializes in stories and songs on the Appalachian and Ozark Mountains. His performance is funded in part by the Kentucky Arts Council.

OCHS site-based council to meet April 18
The Owen County High School site-based council will meet on April 18.

Last day to register to vote is April 23
The last day to register to vote – or if you have changed your residence since the last election, to correct your precinct for the May 22 primary – is April 23 by 4 p.m. in the Owen County Clerk’s Office. Persons 18 years old, or those who will become 18 by the 2007 regular November election, and who are residents and pass the 30-day residential qualifications in the precinct by the election, may register and vote.

Mammography van will be at health center
St. Elizabeth’s mobile mammography van will be at the Owen County Health Center on April 26. For an appointment,, call 484-5736.

Formalwear and donations needed for prom
Ladies, we are now accepting gently used formal dresses and accessories. Donations are also needed to help with additional prom expenses, dry cleaning, etc. Drop off your donated items with Diana O’Toole at the Owen County HIgh School or by contacting Dana Gill at 484-2618

Prom Closet will offer formal gowns
If you are a teenager in need of a dress for homecoming, prom, or any other special event, the Prom Closet can help. The Prom Closet Project distributes gowns twice a year during Prom and Class Night. During both seasons you can set up an appointment to shop for your very own dress. This is completely free of charge. Just contact Mrs. O’Toole at OCHS, 484-4269; or Dana Gill at 484-2618.

County awarded FEMA money
Owen County has been awarded $5,020 in FEMA money for 2007. If you are interested in applying for the funds, you will need to be a nonprofit agency. If you have any questions, please call Owen County Community Action at 484-2116 or NKCAC at (859) 581-6607.

Adult Education Program offers
job readiness classes

The Owen County Adult Education Program is offering classes in job readiness skills. The program includes resume writing, interviewing skills, beginning computer skills and more. For more information, contact the Adult Education Center at 484-0405

SBDM Meetings
• The Owen County Elementary Site-based Decision-making Council meets at 6 p.m. on the first Monday of each month. The meeting is in the conference room.
• The Owen County High School Site-based Decision-making Council regularly meets the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the high school conference room.
• The Bowling Middle School Site-based Decision-making Council meets at 4 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the conference room.
• The Owen County Primary School Site-based Decision-making Council meets at 5 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month in the school library.
