| A group
of students from Owen County High School spent three days and
two nights in New York City last week.
There were 12 members of Lee Ann Gamm’s senior dramatics
class that went on the trip, which Gamm booked through the Web
site edutrips.com. The purpose of the trip was to do a theater
tour, since the class had performed “Grease” at the
high school last fall.
In addition to the main tourist attractions like the Statue of
Liberty and Rockefeller Center, the students also got to see a
production of “Spamalot” at the Shubert Theater.
Gamm said she was pleased with the trip and the tour group they
accompanied.
“Everything was geared toward (high school) age kids,”
she said, “(but) it was very educational for all of us.”
She has never taken her drama class on this kind of trip before,
but said it was something she’d like to do again. She received
good feedback from the students and said they were “totally
amazed at being in downtown Times Square.”
The students also attended a live taping of MTV’s “TRL,”
a show that counts down the best music videos of the day, as voted
on by viewers.
Gamm said this experience was a new one for many. Most had never
been to New York City before, and five of the students who went
had never been on an airplane.
Other stops on the tour included a tour of NBC Studios, where
the students were able to see the stage on which Saturday Night
Live is filmed. They also visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral
and Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum.
“Everything we went to (the students) loved,” Gamm
said.
She said the group was well-behaved and they were even complimented
on their good behavior by their tour guide.
“I’m very proud of them,” she said.
The trip is something she said could possibly happen again next
year.
“. . . If I get a good group,” she said.
