Participants at the Arnold Classic
Schwarzenegger Fitness
Expo & Martial Arts Festival” was held at the Greater Columbus Convention
Center in Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday, March 3, 2007. The “Fitness Expo”
featured numerous competitions: Wrestling, Body Building, Fitness International,
Figure International, PowerLifting, Hockey, Fencing, Boxing, Archery, Gymnastics,
Cheerleading, 5k Run, Speed Skating, etc. The “Martial Arts Festival”
featured thirteen martial arts competitions under the same roof: Judo, Jujitsu,
Tae Kwon Do, Karate, San Shou, Hopkido, Aikido, Gumdo Kendo, Padded Weapons,
Combative Weapons, Kali, Tang Soo Do, and Wushu.
Various students attended a grappling workshop featuring “Five-Time UFC
Champion” Randy Couture, which focused on his personal training style
and workout program. Following the workshop and judo competition, students were
able to visit other fitness events where they were able to meet and greet additional
superstar athletes like: WWE Superstars – John Cena, Batista, and Triple
H; Triple Crown UFC Champion, Dan “The Beast” Severn, as well as
Superbowl legend John Lendeta.
The crowd was treated to a rare Sumo demonstration by the current “World
Sumo Champion” Byambajav Ulambayar from Japan, and other top sumo wrestlers:
Koichi Kato from Japan, Wayne Vierra from Hawaii, and Bayanbat Davaadalai from
Mongolia. With all four men standing more than six feet tall and weighing 300
to 400 pounds, their demonstration was an eye-opening experience for most Americans
unfamiliar with the sport.
The Owen County Judo Team dominated the judo tournament bringing home 33
medals: 14-1st, 16-2nd, and 4-3rd. Beginner James Towles placed 3rd
in two divisions, even though he sustained a concussion at the end
of his second division. The rest of the tournament was relatively free
of serious injuries. Individual players placed as follows:

Clay Beverly placed 2nd in the 7/8-year-old Heavy division, and 2nd in the 9/10-year-old
Heavy division.
David Gray placed 1st in the 7/8-year-old Heavy division, and 2nd in the 7/8-year-old
Middle division.
Wyatt Rohling placed 2nd in the 7/8-year-old Light division.

Annie Adams placed 2nd in the 9/10-year-old Light division.
Mark Heuser placed 1st in the 9/10-year-old Middle division.
Gabe Henderson placed 1st in the 11/12-year-old Light division, and 1st in the
11/12- year-old Middle division.
Jarrod Henderson placed 1st in the 7/8-year-old Light division.
Madison Lubbe placed 1st in the 9/10-year-old Super Light division, and 3rd
in the 9/10-year-old Light division.
Hannah McCormick placed 2nd in the 9/10-year-old Middle division
Chelsea Smith placed 1st in the 9/10-year-old Light division.
James Souder placed 2nd in the 9/10-year-old Light division.

Jeffrey Adams placed 2nd in the 11/12-year-old Light division.
Robert Beverly placed 1st in the 15/16-year-old Heavy weight division and 1st
in the Open division.
Jordan Henderson placed 1st in the 11/12-year-old Light division, and 1st in
the 11/12-year-old Middle division.
Alexis Kelley placed 1st in the 11/12-year-old Light division.
Lindsay McCormick placed 2nd in the 11/12-year-old Light division, and 2nd in
the 11/12-year-old Middle division.
Miranda Owens placed 1st in the 11/12-year-old Middle division.
Ashley Parks placed 2nd in the 15/16-year-old Light division.
James Thompson placed 2nd in the 11/12-year-old Heavy division.
John Thompson placed 2nd in the 15/16-year-old Super Light division, and 2nd
in the 15/16-year-old Light division.

Laura Colston placed 1st in the 15/16-year-old Light division.
Joe Clark placed 1st in the 15/16-year-old Middle division, 2nd in the 15/16-year-old
Heavy division, and 2nd in the 15/16-year-old Open division.
Doug Tyler placed 1st place in the 15/16-year-old Light division, 2nd in the
15/16-year-old Middle division, and 3rd in the 15/16-year-old Open division.
James Towles placed 3rd in the 15/16-year-old Light division, and 3rd in the
15/16-year-old Open division.
