Vernon Clifton, 89

Vernon Clifton, 89, of Owenton, died Jan. 16, 2007, at New Horizons Medical Center. Born Aug. 3, 1917, in Owen County, he was the son of the late James Porter and Martha Wright Clifton. He was a farmer and a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church where he was a deacon.
He is survived by two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, five nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia Cannon Clifton, and his wife, Eva Bell Griffin Clifton; a son, Harry Vernon Clifton; four brothers, Verlis, Marvin, Lewis and Emmett Clifton; and a sister, Thelma Beckham.
Funeral services were held Jan. 18 at McDonald & New Funeral Homes with Bro. Jesse Bourne officiating. Burial was in Owenton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cedar Hill Baptist Church. Please visit the guest register at www.mcdonaldandnew.com.

 


Charles Beck, 85

Charles J. Beck, 85, of Warsaw, died Jan. 15, 2007, at Gallatin Health Care Center. Born Dec. 31, 1921, he was the son of the late Charles Thomas and Agnes Beck. He was a retired aircraft mechanic and served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hilda Tielkemeier Beck of Warsaw; two sons, Chuck Beck of Warsaw and Douglas R. Beck of Atlanta, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Jan. 19 at Garnett-New-McDonald Funeral Home in Warsaw. Burial was in Warsaw Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Chuck, Doug, David and Christopher Beck, Ernie Patnode and Rick Shannon.


Robert Burke, 58

Robert William “Bobby” Burke, 58, of Owenton, died Jan. 22, 2007 at New Horizons Medical Center. Born May 3, 1948, in Owen County, he was the son of the late William Porter Burke and Jennie D. Hudgins Windings. He was a heavy equipment operator.
He is survived by his sons, Robert William Burke II of Carrollton, Steven Dale Burke of Owenton, Jackie Allen Burke of Smyrna, Tenn., Kevin James Burke of Crittenden and William Troy Burke of Warsaw; two daughters, Amanda Jean Burke of Owenton and Whitney Nichole Burke of Owenton; two brothers, Mickey Ray Burke of Williamstown and Tom Burke of Owenton; a half-brother, James Windings Jr. of Texas; a sister, Mary Jean McElroy of Benton, Ark.; a special friend, Christy Hall of Owenton; six grandchildren; three nieces; and three nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Jan. 26 at McDonald & New Funeral Home, Main Street location. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 27 at the funeral home with Bro. David Wotier officiating. Pallbearers will be Muffet Chowning, Jeremy Chowning, Craig Burke, Mickey Burke, Rob Lane, Steve Burns, Harvey Beers and Jerry Michael Lankford.Burial will be in Owenton Cemetery.

William Thornton, 90

William Jackson “Jack” Thornton, 90, of Owenton, died Jan. 21, 2007, at New Horizons Medical Center. Born April 21, 1916, in Owen County, he was the son of the late Flint and Mattie Wise Thornton. He was a farmer and a member of Old Cedar Baptist Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Lena Ellis of Frankfort; a son, Jerry Thornton of Paris; 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Taylor Thornton; and sons William Allen, James Lee and Martin Ray Thornton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Main Street location of McDonald & New Funeral Homes with Bro. Don Karsner officiating. Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ronnie D. Woods, Ronnie R. Woods, Todd Ellis, Kevin Tho-rnton, Scott Thornton and Danny Thornton. Honorary bearers will be Dean and Tammy Thornton, Philda Simpson, Beverly Gordy, Karen Penn and Vanessa Woods.

Nadina Sizemore, 37

Nadina Sizemore, 37, of Klemme, Iowa, died Jan. 16, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center, Mason City, Iowa. She was born in Louisville and was a teacher’s aide for Belmond-Klemm High School in Belmond, Iowa.
She is survived by her husband, Nathan Banta of Klemme, Iowa; three daughters, Kelsey Nicole Sizemore, Baylee Lynn Banta and Morgan Whitney Banta, all of Klemme, Iowa; her parents, Roscoe and Debbie Moore Sizemore, both of Gratz; two brothers, Randy Sizemore of Frankfort and Scott Sizemore of Gratz; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held Jan. 21 at Sholar Funeral Home in Pleasureville with the Rev. Leon Robinson of United Baptist Church in Gratz and Bro. Fred Snider officiating. Burial was in Wallace Cemetery in Lockport. Honorary pallbearers included Fred Fitzgerald and Doug Smith. Casket bearers included Jimmy Adcock, Owen Arnold Jr., Scotty Fitzgerald, Gary Haines, Rocky Huber and Ira Smither.


W.T. Lynn, 94

W.T. “Jack” Lynn, 94, of Owenton, died Jan. 16, 2007. He was born Oct. 22, 1912, the son of the late Frank Hill and Pearl Hammonds Lynn. He was the regional director of the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources in the fifth district; an Owenton city councilman and police commissioner; a founding member of the Owen County Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad; and a charter member of the Owen County Sportsmen’s Club. He was a member of the Northern Kentucky Area Development District; a 50-year member of Owen Lodge #128 E&AM; a member of Emmanuel Lodge #213 Independent Order of Odd Fellows; a member of the Kentucky Peace Officer’s Association; and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Lawless Lynn of Owenton; four sons, Jackie R. Lynn of Owenton, Frankie G. Lynn of Owenton, Gary L. Lynn of Erlanger and Earl Chanley of Ludlow; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, W.T. Lynn Jr.; and two brothers, Atlas Lynn and Hamon Lynn.
Funeral services were held Jan. 19 at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown followed by a graveside service at Owenton Cemetery.


Viola Estes, 97

Viola M. Estes, 97, formerly of Owen County, died Jan. 12, 2007, at the Florence Park Nursing Home. She was born June 10, 1909.
She is survived by a daughter, Laurana Winkle of Florence; grandchildren Brad Winkle of Florence and Sandy Hutchinson of Union; great-grandchildren Dennis Hutchinson, Jason Hutchinson, John
Hutchinson, Kristin King and Holli Winkle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry F. Estes; and by a grandchild, Mariana Winkle.
