Men’s Basketball League sign-ups have begun
Owen County Parks and Recreation is now taking sign-ups for its men’s basketball league. Players will sign up as individuals and be drafted to a team. The league will play their games on Sunday afternoons starting Jan. 21. Cost per player is $25 and the deadline for registration is Wednesday. To sign up call 484-3225.
Free tax tips offered Thursday
Paul Minch, EA, will offer pointers and answer questions that could benefit you when filing taxes this year. The event will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Owen County Elementary School cafeteria. Free child care and dinner will also be provided. Owen County Board of Elections to meet Monday
The Owen County Board of Elections will meet in the Owen County Clerk’s office at 10 a.m. Monday.
Free Family Fun Night is Monday
The Owen County Public Library presents storyteller Mary Hamilton at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Come listen to Mary as she becomes a bedraggled hag, an arrogant prince or a crafty handmaiden to the delight of all her listeners. The program is free and open to all ages. Homecoming to be broadcast on cable
The basketball homecoming coronation and the Lady Rebels game against Henry County will be broadcast on D&N Cable Channel 20 at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. This broadcast is a production of STEP, a multimedia venture of Owen County High School.
Diabetes Self-Management Classes will begin Monday
Three Rivers District Health Department and the Owen County Extension Office will hold Diabetes Self-Management Classes starting Monday. They will be held weekly for eight weeks. Each class will be held at the Owen County Extension office at 10 a.m. The classes will contain a cooking demonstration on how to prepare and enjoy great tasting foods. Davis will meet with District 3
Teresa Davis, Magistrate for District 3, has set up several meetings in the next month. A meeting with Elk Lake residents will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday at The Beachhouse. On Feb. 3, a meeting will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at Donna’s Diner in Corinth, and from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Risch’s Gun Shop. On Feb. 10, a meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Old Beechwood Store and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Kemper’s Small Engine in Hesler. A meeting will be held at Elk Lake at 9 a.m. on Feb. 17.
Computer class offered Jan. 29
The Owen County Public Library will be offering a free Basic Computer Class from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 29. Class size is limited and registration is required. Please call the library at 484-3450 for more information or to register.
GED test is Feb. 23
The next GED test for Owen County is Feb. 23. Anyone interested in taking the test should contact the Adult Learning Center at 484-0405 or come by the center. If you have taken the GED but have one or more sections to retake, you can complete the test on Feb. 23.
Adult Ed center will change hours for winter
The Owen County Adult Education Center will be open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday through February. Evening hours will be available upon request. If public schools are closed for snow the adult learning center will also be closed. For more information call 484-0405.
Local and state police start roadblocks
In the upcoming months, local and state law enforcement will be conducting periodic roadblocks.
Adult Education Program offers job readiness classes
The Owen County Adult Education Program is offering classes in job readiness skills. The program includes resume writing, interviewing skills, beginning computer skills and more. For more information, contact the Adult Education Center at 484-0405
