Library to host movie night
The Owen County Public Library will show the movie “How to Eat Fried Worms,” rated PG, on Monday at 5:30 p.m. The movie is free and open to all ages. Refreshments will be served.
County Clerk’s office closed Monday
The Owen County Clerk’s office will be closed Monday, Jan. 15, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
“Prom Closet” has dresses available
The Masquerade Ball will be held at OCHS on Saturday. Anyone needing a dress from the “Prom Closet” please contact Diana O’Toole at 484-4269 or Dana Gill at 484-2618.
Men’s Basketball League sign-ups have begun
Owen County Parks and Recreation is now taking sign-ups for its men’s basketball league. Players will sign up as individuals and be drafted to a team. The league will play their games on Sunday afternoons starting Jan. 21. Cost per player is $25 and the deadline for registration is Wednesday. To sign up call 484-3225.
Free tax tips offered Jan. 18
Paul Minch, CPA, will offer pointers and answer questions that couldl benefit you when filing taxes this year. The event will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 18 in the Owen County Elementary School cafeteria. Free child care and dinner will also be provided. Owen County Board of Elections to meet Jan. 22
The Owen County Board of Elections will meet in the Owen County Clerk’s office at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22.
Family Fun Night is Jan. 22
The Owen County Public Library presents storyteller Mary Hamilton at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22. Come listen to Mary as she becomes a bedraggled hag, an arrogant prince or a crafty handmaiden to the delight of all her listeners. The program is free and open to all ages. Diabetes Self-Management Classes will begin in January
Three Rivers District Health Department and the Owen County Extension Office will hold Diabetes Self-Management Classes starting January 22. They will be held weekly for eight weeks. Each class will be held at the Owen County Extension office at 10 a.m. The classes will contain a cooking demonstration on how to prepare and enjoy great tasting foods. GED test is Feb. 23
The next GED test for Owen County is Feb. 23. Anyone interested in taking the test should contact the Adult Learning Center at 484-0405 or come by the center. If you have taken the GED but have one or more sections to retake, you can complete the test on Feb. 23.
Adult Ed center will change hours for winter
The Owen County Adult Education Center will be open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday through February. Evening hours will be available upon request. If public schools are closed for snow the adult learning center will also be closed. For more information call 484-0405.
Local and state police start roadblocks
In the upcoming months, local and state law enforcement will be conducting periodic roadblocks.
Adult Education Program offers job readiness classes
The Owen County Adult Education Program is offering classes in job readiness skills. The program includes resume writing, interviewing skills, beginning computer skills and more. For more information, contact the Adult Education Center at 484-0405
