Monterey Baptist Church Basketball League sign-ups have begun
Boys and girls in grades K-6 can sign up now for the 2007 Upward Basketball League at Monterey Baptist Church. Registration forms will be handed out at the schools and are also available at North Park Pharmacy, Monterey Baptist Church and www.monterey-baptist.org. Regular registration is $53 and is due by Tuesday. Scholarships are available. All players must attend an evaluation day between 10 a.m. and noon Jan. 6 at the MBC gym. Practices begin in January and games are on Saturdays from Jan. 27 to March 10. For more information call 484-2555 or 875-7495.
Owen County Baptist Hymn Sing is Sunday
The Owen County Baptist Associational Hymn Sing will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. For information or directions, call 484-0959.
Extension office will be closed for holidays
The Owen County Extension Office will be closed through Jan. 1 for the holidays. They will reopen at 8 a.m. on Jan. 2.
County clerk’s office will be closed for holidays
The Owen County Clerk’s office will be closed Jan. 1 and Jan. 2, in observance of the New Year’s holiday.
Library will be closed for holidays
The Owen County Public Library will be closed Jan. 1 in observance of the New Year’s holiday. It will re-open on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
Woodford County Dance Team reunion is Friday
There will be a reunion for members of Jane Britton’s Woodford County Dance Team at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The event will take place at the Life Center at First Christian Church in Versailles. Friends and family are invited and snacks and soft drinks will be provided. Dave Macemon will lead dances if anyone is interested. Those who are interested should bring comfortable shoes. Library to host movie night
The Owen County Public Library will show the movie “How to Eat Fried Worms,” rated PG, on Jan. 15 at 5:30 p.m. The movie is free and open to all ages. Refreshments will be served.
Diabetes Self-Management Classes will begin in January
Three Rivers District Health Department and the Owen County Extension Office will start Diabetes Self-Management Classes starting January 22. They will be held weekly for 8 weeks. Each class will be held at the Owen County Extension office at 10 a.m. The classes will contain a cooking demonstration on how to prepare and enjoy great tasting foods. Adult Ed center will change hours for winter
The Owen County Adult Education Center will be open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday through February. Evening hours will be available upon request. If public schools are closed for snow the adult learning center will also be closed. For more information call 484-0405.
Local and state police start roadblocks
In the upcoming months, local and state law enforcement will be conducting periodic roadblocks.
Adult Education Program offers job readiness classes
The Owen County Adult Education Program is offering classes in job readiness skills. The program includes resume writing, interviewing skills, beginning computer skills and more. For more information, contact the Adult Education Center at 484-0405
