Pauline Burke, 71

Pauline Jo Burke, 71, of Pleasant Home, died Nov. 29, 2006, at Harborside Healthcare Facility. Born Aug. 11, 1935, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late James D. and Mable Perkins Dempsey. She was a homemaker, farmer and member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Delbert Burke; two sons and daughters-in-law, Timmy and Tammy Burke and Terry and April Burke; two grandchildren, Justin and Dustin Burke; and four sisters, Lucille Hall, Christine Kemper, Joyce Claxon and Ann Bond, all of Owenton. She was preceded in death by a brother, Junior Dempsey; three half-brothers, Harm, Lon and Sterling Dempsey; and four half-sisters, Edna Beckham, Alice Kemper, Fannie Pate and Justine Wiser.
Funeral services were held Dec. 2 at McDonald & New Funeral Home with Bros. David Wotier and Dale Adkins officiating. Burial was in Owenton Cemetery. Pallbearers were Justin and Dustin Burke, Gene Ray Stewart, Mike Waldrop, Elvis Rose and Lannie Claxon. Honorary bearers were Bill Bentley, Mike Pohlman and Larry Karsner. Sue M. Dawson, 79

Sue M. Dawson, 79, of Versailles, died Nov. 29, 2006, at Pine Meadows Healthcare Center in Lexington. Born July 16, 1927, in Owenton, she was the daughter of the late Lindsay and Clemmie Snelson Dawson. She was an employee of Sears & Roebuck, the United States federal government and the Dollar Store. She attended the University of Cincinnati and was a member of Versailles Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sisters, Alberta Hunt of Erlanger and Joan Dunn of Versailles; a brother and sister-in-law, Horace and Bonnie Dawson of Versailles; and a sister-in-law, Jean Dawson of Ft. Mitchell. She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Dawson.
Funeral services were held Dec. 2 at Clark Funeral Home in Rose Hill with the Rev. John Brandon officiating. Burial was at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Owenton. Ernest Ray “Sonny” Steele, 56

Ernest Ray “Sonny” Steele, 56, of Corinth, died Nov. 28, 2006, in Williamstown. He was a farmer, a welder and a Vietnam War veteran.
He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Steele of Louisville and Sarah Steele of Corinth; six sisters, Sue Taylor of Williamstown, Faye Testerment of Baisden, W. Va., Carol Mays of Baisden, W. Va., Geneva Shands of Gilbert,
W. Va., Vern McKean of Galloway, Ohio, and Opal Sammons of Baisden, W. Va.; two brothers, Roy Sammons of Virginia Beach, Va., and Charles Sammons of Toledo, Ohio; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Dec. 2 at McDaniel Funeral Home in Corinth. Burial was in Corinth Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Paint Lick Baptist Church Building Fund or Gideons International in care of McDaniel Funeral Home, P.O. Box 7, Corinth 41010.

 


Pearl Campbell, 79

Pearl Campbell, 79, of Corinth, died Dec. 2, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Grant County. Born Dec. 3, 1926, in Hazard, she was the daughter of Marion and Mary Baker Morris. She was a homemaker and member of Corinth Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by five daughters, Jeanette Rector of Corinth, Lois Wheeler of Lebanon, Ohio, Joyce Petrie of Augusta, Sharon Isabelle Kingsolver of Xenia, Ohio, and Loretta Hawkins of Franklin, Ohio; four sons, Jimmy Campbell of Winton Place, Ohio, Jerry Campbell of Owen County, Douglas Campbell of Grant County and Timothy Clyde Campbell of Grant County; a sister, Myrtle Lainhart of Franklin, Ohio; 29 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 6 at Corinth Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in Arlington Memorial Gardens, Cincinnati. Memorial contributions may be made to Corinth Assembly of God Church, P.O. Box 304, Corinth 41010.


Emma English Connell Sherman, 84

Emma English Connell Sherman, 84, of Warsaw, died Dec. 3, 2006, at the Gallatin Health Care Center in Warsaw. Born on April 2, 1922, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Georgie Trusdale Connell.
Growing up in New Liberty and Sparta, she graduated from Sparta High School in 1940 and lived in Orlando, Fla., and Miami, Fla. She later resided in Carrollton.
Survivors include a sister, Patricia Rea of Warsaw; four nieces, Pamela Thomas, Paula Dial, Jane Connell Young and Natalie Patterson; two nephews, Robert Anthony Rea and Thomas Connell; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Marshall Connell, Harry Bond Connell, Gayle Connell and Jess Russell Connell.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 6 at Garnett-New-McDonald Funeral Home in Warsaw. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dave Hill officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert A. Rea, Neil Patterson, Tom Connell, Preston Young, Robert H. Rea and Dave Clymer. Katherine T. Smither, 89

Katherine T. Smither, 89, of Lockport, died Dec. 2, 2006, at Homestead Nursing Home in New Castle. She was a native of Owen County and the daughter of the late Fernando and Annie Webb Thornton Smither. She was a member of Lockport Baptist Church and a retired homemaker and nurse.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Katherine and Ray Moore of Lockport; two sons, Owen Barton Smither of Bethlehem and Donald Ray Smither of Waddy; a brother, Henry Thornton of Frankfort; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Dec. 5 at Sholar Funeral Home in Pleasureville with Bro. John Vincent of Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Smothfield officiating. Burial was in Monterey Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kim Owens, Lanny Owens, Stephan McQueen, Andrew Smither, Barry Smither, Donald Smither Jr., Ira Smither Jr., Randy Smither, Terry Smither, Tony Smither and Melvin Snow. Honorary pallbearers were Debbie Beverly, Shelia Goold, MaLinda Husband, Rhonda McQueen, Tonya Moore, Regina Sharp and Kathy Wilson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Homestead Nursing Home Activities Fund or Lockport Baptist Church.

 


Donald Edward Relford, 47

Donald Edward Relford, 47, of Owen County, died Nov. 27, 2006. He was the son of Andrew Whit Relford and Betty Jean Naylor Relford.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald Williamson and Bradley Williamson; a daughter, Elizabeth Williamson; a granddaughter, Alexis Colston; three brothers; and five sisters.
No services were held. Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
