Shoebox dropoff began Monday
The Operation Christmas Children Shoebox Ministry and Relay Center
at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church opened for shoebox delivery Monday
and runs through Sunday. The boxes can be dropped off from 10
a.m. to 1 p.m. today, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10
a.m. to noon Saturday and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. For more information

Chamber of Commerce meets Thursday
The Owen County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting
at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, at the county extension building. Georgetown
College President Dr. William Crouch will serve as guest speaker.
Turkey Dinner at Smith House is Friday
Friends and graduates of Bethany High School plan to meet for
a turkey dinner at noon Friday at the Smith House.
Benefit for Seth Kingkade is Saturday
A benefit will be held for Seth Kingkade from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
on Saturday. Seth was recently diagnosed with a rare disease called
“Goodpasture Disease.” The event will take place at
the First Baptist Fellowship Hall / Life Center. For more information

“Tellebration” is Saturday
The Owen County Storytellers will be sponsoring a “tellebration”
with stories being told at the Owen County Public Library. The
event is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. For more information

Reception is Sunday
There will be a celebration honoring Mary Kay Duncan and Lee Cochran
for their years of service to the Owen County Clerk’s and
PVA offices. The reception will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday at the Odd Fellows Lodge.
Free Family Movie Time is Monday
The Owen County Public Library will host a free family movie time
on Monday. The movie is “Cars,” which is rated G,
and the event will start at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served,
and the event is open to all ages.
Transfer Station will be closed for Thanksgiving
Owen County Transfer Station will be closed for dumping on Nov.
23 and 24 for Thanksgiving. The “Free Day” is Nov.
18.
Clerk’s office will be closed for Thanksgiving
The Clerk’s office will be closed Nov. 23 to Nov. 25 for
Thanksgiving. Computers are down statewide.
Library will be closed for Thanksgiving
The Owen County Public Library will be closed Nov. 23 for the
holiday. They will re-open Nov. 24 at 9:30 a.m.
Pampered Chef Fundraiser is Nov. 25
The youth at Dallasburg Baptist Church will be holding a Pampered
Chef Fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 25 to raise money
for camp. There will be door prizes, free gifts and more.
Celebration of Remembrance is Dec. 2
Elliston-Stanley Funeral Homes will host their annual “Celebration
of Remembrance.” It is a memorial service for the families
they have served during the year. The event takes place at 7 p.m.
Dec. 2 at the Williamstown chapel. The Rev. David Tucker of the
Sherman Baptist Church will be the guest speaker. There will also
be musical selections. A “Remembrance Tree” will honor
those who died in the past year. The service is free and open
to everyone in the community. Refreshments will be served. For

GED Testing is Dec. 5
The next GED Testing date for Owen County is Dec. 5. Anyone interested
in sitting for the exam may contact the Adult Learning Center
at 484-0405 to get enrolled and pre-tested.
Local and state police start roadblocks
In the upcoming months, local and state law enforcement will be
conducting periodic roadblocks.
Adult Education Program offers job readiness classes
The Owen County Adult Education Program is offering classes in
job readiness skills. The program includes resume writing, interviewing
skills, beginning computer skills and more. For more information,
