The Owen County Rebels’ season came to an end with a 44-0 loss to the Carroll County Panthers. The Rebels finish the season with a 3-7 record.
A rainy night with a muddy field caused both teams to struggle early offensively. The Rebels turned the ball over on their first two possessions, but the defense was able to hold off the Panthers.
With the ball on their own 40-yard line, the Rebels fumbled once again. This time the Panthers were able to capitalize. Junior tailback Daniel Rose scored the first Panther touchdown with a 6-yard run. Rose ran for 73 yards with three rushing scores and he returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown.
Owen County’s offense had several miscues through the half and was unable to get anything going on the ground or in the air. The Rebels’ defense kept them in the game, and they were down only 10-0 at the half.
Owen County’s offense continued to struggle in the second half giving the Panthers good field position the entire night. The game got worse for the Rebels when senior linebacker Jimmy Dalton was injured early in the third quarter and wasn’t able to return.
The floodgates opened in the fourth quarter as Carroll County scored 28 unanswered points with two rushing touchdowns, a blocked punt for a score, and an interception return. Carroll County finished the season with a 3-6 record and will advance to the Class A playoffs against Frankfort this Friday night.
