Minch and Scroggins win DQ golf shoot-out

The annual two-person, alternate shot golf tournament was held last Sunday at Fairway Golf Course. Gary Minch and John Scroggins birdied the final hole, edging out Mike McDonald and Randy Mefford. Mefford missed by inches on his chip shot that would have given his team a birdie. Minch had hit a beautiful wedge to within seven feet, and his partner, John Scroggins, drained the putt for the win.
In the shoot-out, Josh Wheeler and Don Cheatam were the first of the six teams to go out on the first hole. Ty Robinette and Bill Welty were put out on the second hole. Ronnie Dunavent and Ken Jones left on the third. With three teams left, host pro Gil England and Jimmy Olds were put out in a chip off as all three teams parred the hole. That left the teams of Minch-Scroggins and McDonald-Mefford to play the dramatic 18th hole.
An awards ceremony was held after the golf play. Each team in the shoot-out won sportswear donated by Doug and Latitia Lubbe of Owenton Dairy Queen. All the golfers thanked them for the event.
