A group of ladies from the Owen County Senior Center enjoyed a day
of cruising on the river last week as many did who attended the
Tall Stacks Festival in Cincinnati. The group cruised the river
for 2-1/2 hours on the General Jefferson Riverboat with a nice dinner,
lots of scenery, fun and music. They received a ride back to Newport
on the Levy for ice cream before heading back to Owenton. Everyone
had a wonderful day.

Everyone
is invited to an enjoyable evening fundraiser for the Owen County
Historical Society held Oct. 21 at the Robinson Family Kentucky
Jamboree, 4245 Swope Road. Dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. with entertainment
at 7:30 p.m. Please RSVP by Monday to 484-3233 or www.robinsonfamily.com.
The Owen County Historical Museum is progressing each day. “We
feel the people of Owen County will be pleased with the effort,”
said president Jeannie Williams. “Our last large task of restoring
and papering the two halls and foyer downstairs are now in progress.
The rest of the work will be easier and won’t take as long.
We’re striving for an open house Dec. 16.”
Women of the community are being asked to help with paperwork and
filing. Please call Williams at 484-3925 or Doris Ann Riley at 484-2321
to assist.
A pair of men’s glasses which were lost at the museum have
not been claimed.
The society will have a booth at the Robinson’s Family Farm
on Saturday for a special day of tours. Books and pamphlets will
be for sale.
The regular monthly board meeting will be at the Owen County Public
Library at 1 p.m. today. Nominations will be taken for officers
and board members to present at the regular monthly meeting Oct.
19. Guest speaker will be Barry Marston of Frankfort following dinner
and a short business meeting.
Marston will speak on the Ayres family of Owen County and Virginia,
who settled at Poplar Grove before the formation of Owen County.
Marston is a life member of the Owen County Historical Society,
a Kentucky Historical Society member, and a 32-year-member and former
officer of the Kentucky Genealogical Society. He has been a volunteer
in several archaeological digs. He has researched his family tree
for 49 years and the Ayres family for more than 40 years. He is
the son of Chester and Emily Marston of Owenton. His Web site is
