Hesler precinct moved for fall election
The Hesler Precinct will be moved to the Hesler Assembly of God Church for the general election on Nov. 7. This relocation is due to the federal requirements for handicapped accessibility.
Homecoming coronation and halftime ceremony to be broadcast on cable.
S.T.E.P. (a multimedia venture of Owen County High School) will broadcast the homecoming coronation and the halftime ceremony honoring the 1980 football team on local cable channel 20 at 7 p.m. Thursday. A special video, “A Season to Remember,” which tells the story of the 1980 Rebels will also be broadcast. DVD copies of all S.T.E.P. broadcasts are available for purchase. The cost is $7 per broadcast. Available at this time are the Owen vs. Gallatin football game, the Lady Rebels vs. Grant soccer game, homecoming coronation/halftime, and “A Season to Remember.” Call 484-4176 for more information.
OCPS taking orders for yearbooks
Owen County Primary School is taking orders for 2006-2007 year books. The cost is $11 and there will be absolutely no late orders. Orders are due Oct. 13. Please contact Alyssa Inman or Billie Smith with questions.
Election signs prohibited on right-of-way
Candidates are reminded that placing election signs on the right of way is a violation of state law. These signs can be a distraction and can cause a number of other problems. They will be removed.
Library sponsoring teen art contest
The Library is sponsoring a teen art contest. Artists between 13 and 18 years of age who live in Owen County may enter their original work in either two- or three-dimensional form. No computer-generated work accepted. Only one entry per category. Artwork must be ready for display or framed for hanging. Prizes will be awarded and the art will be displayed in the library for one year. Art may be submitted through Sept. 30 during regular library business hours. Project Graduation to host Friday pre-game dinner
Project Graduation will be hosting a pork tenderloin dinner before the football game Friday. The dinner will feature tenderloin sandwiches, baked beans, slaw, chips and a drink for only $5. Serving begins at 6 p.m.
Air, car show set for Saturday
Owen Air Park will host the Fly-in, Drive-In Show from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m, Saturday. The event is weather-permitting, and will feature airplanes from the 1940s to the present and cars from the 1930s to the present. For more information, call 484-3143 or 484-0152.
First Baptist to host gospel concert
Owenton First Baptist Church will host a gospel concert starting at 7 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Life Center. The concert will feature: Ronnie Wooten, Family Four, GloryBound, Oasis, New Hope, Austin Fitzgerald, Kids for Christ, the First Baptist Choir, Barry Winkle, Felicity Spicer and more. A love offering will be taken to support the Acts 1:8 challenge for missions. Refreshments will be served.
Swigert-Davis reunion is Sunday
Family of the late Ernest Lee Swigert and the late Kate Davis (Swigert) Webster will be gathering on Sunday at the Owen County Extension building on Fairgrounds Road. All descendants of John and Nannie (Bourne) Swigert, and William and Elizabeth (Ligon) Davis, are also invited to join in the fun. A potluck lunch will begin at 1 p.m.
New Columbus Methodist homecoming is Sunday
The New Columbus Methodist Church homecoming will be Sunday at noon. A special service will begin at 2 p.m. featuring the music of Family Four.
Class of 1950 to meet
The class reunion of 1950 will be held at 6 p.m. Oct 6 at the extension building. The price is $25 per person. For more information call Peggy Thomas at 484-3447 or Lou Ann Tupts at 484-5069.
Baseball team to host golf scramble
The Owen County High School baseball team will host its annual golf scramble on Oct 7. Registration and lunch will be from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. Shotgun start is at 1:30 p.m. For more information contact Bob Osborne, Dan Logan, or Paul Wayne Ogden.
Benefit for Perkins planned
The Wheatley community will host a benefit for Brianna Perkins at 6 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Wheatley Community Center. Homemade chili, soup and pies will be served. An after-dinner show will feature “Wheatley’s Got Talent” and a silent auction will be taking place throughout the night. NASCAR, Carhart and Longaberger baskets are just a few items that will be auctioned. If you are interested in being part of the talent, please contact Jim Wainscott at 463-2384. If you would like to donate to the silent auction, please contact Teresa Dye at 463-2539. All proceeds will go to Brianna and her family. Please come out and enjoy the fun.
Voter registration deadline is Oct. 10
The last day to register to vote or to notify the county clerk’s office if you have changed your residence since the last election, is by 4 p.m. Oct. 10. Voters who will be out of town on Election Day may come and vote in the county clerk’s office starting Tuesday. You may vote between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Voters who are disabled or unable to vote at the precincts may apply for a paper absentee ballot. The last day to apply for one is Oct. 31.
