Owen County Historical Society members travel to Ohio fair.
The Kentucky
Wild Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the home of Jeannie
Williams, 1 mile out of Gratz on Hwy. 355 and 6 miles from Monterey.
Hot dogs and sodas will be sold during the event. Bring your own
folding chair or blanket. This will be a fundraiser for the Owen
County Historical Society. John Harrod plays Bluegrass music and
has been presented with a Kentucky Arts award.
The annual picnic for society members and their families starts
at 6:30 p.m. The band plays at 7:30 p.m. for the fundraiser.
The Woman’s Club tour will be from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday,
beginning at the Owen County Historical Society Museum. Refreshments
will be served and tickets are on sale for the open house tour.
Six of the Owen County Historical Society members attended the New
Boston Fair in Springfield, Ohio, on Sept. 1 where they saw a reenactment
of the Revolutionary War. Those in attendance were Larry Dale Perry,
Margaret Murphy, Ruth Ann Hazlett, Doris Ann Riley, Peggy Trinkle
and Jeannie Williams. Approximately 100 tents were set up simulating
the dress and articles of that time period. Tom and Bonnie Strassell
set up their printing press, making indentures and explaining old
ways of printing. It was an enjoyable day of colonial times with
Native Americans and everyone being in costume, learning of their
traditions through story-telling and encampments.
