Hagan
joins N-H staff as reporter
New
staff writer offers a look into her life
Having just graduated
from Western Kentucky University in May, I was not anticipating
having a job in my chosen field for quite some time. Every one
of my friends had taken months, sometimes more than a year to
find what they wanted. I sent out countless resumes and patiently
waited for a response. Then, just a few weeks after I moved
back in with my parents in Louisville, I was given the opportunity
to move to Owenton and begin my first job as a repoarter.
My name is Laura Hagan, and I am very happy to be here. I have
loved writing and have wanted to be a reporter for as long as
I can remember. Originally from Louisville, I attended WKU for
the past four years. Western’s journalism and broadcasting
department is considered to be one of the best in the country,
making it a good choice for someone like me. I loved the time
I spent there.
I am very close with my family. While I was raised in Louisville,
I do not see it as the big city. I lived in a smaller suburb
of Louisville, called Middletown.
While I am somewhat shy at first, I do consider myself to be
outgoing once I get to know someone. I enjoy music and movies
perhaps a little too much, my friends usually come to me with
questions about a movie or song.
For the past four years I have also been in a different line
of work, serving at a restaurant. It is a unique experience,
to say the least, and something I think everyone should do at
some point in their life because it’s taught me a lot
in terms of my personality and how I deal with things.
I am 22 years old and look forward to growing and learning both
as a person and in my career field while I am here at The News-Herald.
I hope to meet many new people as I settle into the community.
Though I have only been here for two days, I already like what
I’ve seen.
