Parent
volunteers sought at Maurice Bowling Middle School
Have your
ever wanted to make a difference in the life of a middle school
child or help a middle school teacher with those extra tasks they
never have time for? Here is your chance to make a difference.
Teachers and staff at Maurice Bowling Middle School invite parents
and community members to volunteer their time and skills to influence
the lives of their students. Maurice Bowling Middle School would
appreciate any contribution of time you can donate. This can be
fun and a way to use your skills to help others, and you can make
new friends within the community.
Your involvement lets the school staff and students know that
you value education and you are someone with whom they can build
a lasting relationship. Parents, this opportunity could have a
positive effect on your child’s educational experience.
The relationships that you develop at school can give you information
and insight into your child’s world, their friendships,
and the expectations your child faces on a daily basis.
If you want to see change, the best way to impact it is to be
involved from the inside. Volunteer forms will be sent home to
middle school parents with their child’s midterm report.
There are forms available in the middle school office for community
members interested in volunteering.
The process to begin your volunteer experience is very easy. Complete
and return the volunteer form. Kathy Resetar, volunteer coordinator,
will contact you to begin volunteering. Contact her at 484-4011
with any questions you may have. Once your paperwork is complete,
you will be given a short training on confidentiality, and then
you are ready to make a difference.
Open
house brings
staffs together
The Owen
County Public Library and the Owen County Elementary School Library
held a joint OCPL open house recently. On Aug. 24, the staffs
of the school district were invited to the public library to an
informal information session about what services the public library
offers to the staff of the district. Several staff members took
advantage of this opportunity to learn more and had an enjoyable
afternoon visiting with the others.
The public library recently added a request form to its Web page
for the staffs to use to request materials or information from
the library. This is a great additional source for staff members
to have to educate the children of Owen County. The event was
hosted by Susan Hampton of the public library, and Denise Perkins,
elementary school librarian. The catered refreshments were by
Sisterly Touch. They plan for this event to become an annual joint
effort to help bring the library and school working together toward
the education of Owen County young people.
