Woman’s
Club tour set for Sept. 24
Scheduled for Sept.
24, the Owen County Woman’s Club Home Tour will feature several
homes and businesses in the community.
Tickets are $5 each and are available from club members or on the
day of the tour.
Two of the homes on this year’s tour include the Ronnie and
Joy Roberts home and State Farm Insurance.
The Roberts home, on Cull Road, was built in 1987. It features three
bedrooms, two baths, formal living and dining rooms, a combined
kitchen and family room, and a sunroom on the main floor.
The home has been decorated with traditional and antique furniture
and has a finished basement. Joy has just decorated a room for their
new twin granddaughters. The yard is beautifully landscaped by their
son, Clark.
The State Farm office on Main Street is owned by Richard and Vicki
Green. It is believed to be the oldest home in Owen County.
Thought to have been built before the Civil War, it was listed on
the city map of 1860 as the Duncan House. In its early years, it
was the home of a blacksmith and his shop was on the property.
In the 1890s, it was a girls’ finishing school. Most Owen
County residents remember it as the Forsee home. The Forsees owned
it for 100 years.
The home is listed on the National Historical Register and Richard
gives Vicki the credit for the decorating.
