No opposition for nonpartisan candidates

Fourth district constable's race gets two write-in candidates

When 4 p.m. came and went last Tuesday afternoon, nonpartisan candidates heaved a sigh of relief. None of them were contested.
In fact, several appointments will need to be made for the vacant seats on the Monterey City Council and Gratz and Sparta city commissions.
The only opposition that came out of last week’s filing was in the fourth district constable’s race, where write-in candidates Larry House and Gary T. Jenkins will vie for the seat. No candidate ran for the seat in the May primary, leaving it open.
On the ballot for the the Nov. 7 general election for the nonpartisan races are:
• School Board District 2 — Brett McDonald
• School Board District 5 — Terry Patterson
• Conservation Board — C.W. Yancey, David Stewart and John Russell New. There are three seats up for grabs in the race. The three candidates will fill those seats.
• Gratz Mayor — Charles Redmon
• Gratz City Commission — Harold “Brother” Aldridge and James Goodrich. Two additional seats will be filled after the first of the year by appointment.
• Owenton Mayor — Dave “Milkweed” Wotier
• Owenton City Council — Robert Osborne, Bobby Walker, Robert “Casey” Ellis, Doris Ann Riley, Larry Dale Perry and John Stewart. All six are assured seats on the council. Current councilman Marc Duvall opted not to run in this race.
• Monterey Mayor — Dennis Atha
• Monterey City Council — Christine “Kit” Powell, Joe Manypenny, Ginny Watts and Crystal True. Two additional seats will be filled after the first of the year by appointment.
• Sparta Mayor — Brenda Henry
• Sparta City Commission — Michael Glenn Ping, Pat Harrison, Sidney Gullion and Chad Dunavent.
Contested partisan races on the ballot in November include:
• County Judge-Executive — Gary W. Minch, Republican, William P. O’Banion, Democrat.
• Property Valuation Administrator — Troy M. Bramblett, Republican, Jimmy Coyle, Democrat.
• Sheriff — Richard Dale “Rick” Poe Sr., Republican, Zemer Kenneth Hammond, Democrat.
• Magistrate District 1 — J.T. Olds, Republican, Jerry Jones, Democrat.
• Magistrate District 3 — Matt Tofness, Republican, Teresa Kemper Davis, Democrat.
Uncontested partisan races on the November ballot include:
• County Clerk — Joan Kiincaid
• County Attorney — Charles E. Carter
• Circuit Court Clerk — Cindy R. Wright
• Jailer — David V. Bruce
• Coroner — Lannis R. Garnett
• Magistrate District 2 — Bobby Gaines
• Magistrate District 4 — Ray Smith
• Constable District 1 — Bryan L. Roach
• Constable District 2 — Don Slaughter
• Constable District 3 — Bill Young
