Seeking yard sale items
The adult learning center is seeking donations for the Hwy. 127 yard sale. The center raises funds annually to help fund the program and purchase much-needed supplies. Anyone who has items they’d like to donate should contact the adult learning center at 484-0405. All donations are tax deductible.
127 Sale food vendors need permits
Anyone planning to serve food during the 127 yard sale Aug. 3-6 should contact the local health center for any permits that may be required. Call the Owen County Health Center at (502) 484-5736 or the Gallatin County Health Center at (859) 567-2844.
Head Start applications available
Head Start is accepting applications for the 2006-2007 school year. Eligible children need to be 3 by Oct. 1, 2006. For more information, call Paula Bond at 484-4249.
Applications being accepted for Christian preschool
The Owen County Christian Preschool is taking applications for its 3- and 4-year-old program. For more information please call Brandy Walker at 750-2505. Applications may be picked up at the First Baptist Church office.
Sweet Owen Days pageants slated
Miss Sweet Owen and Miss Teen Sweet Owen Pageants will be held again this year in conjunction with Sweet Owen Days on Sept. 16. For more information please contact Gayla at the Owen County Judge-Executive’s Office at 484-3405.
Freshman transition day is Thursday
Freshman transition day at Owen County High School will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday. The cost is $5, which includes lunch, a T-shirt and some school supplies. Students need to register to participate. Forms can be picked up at the high school. No transportation will be provided.
Horse show is Saturday
The Owen County Fairgrounds is hosting the Ohio Valley Summer Festival Horse Show at 6 p.m. Saturday. More than $7,000 in premiums will be awarded.
Osborne, Keith reunion is Sunday
The annual Osborne and Keith reunion will be held Sunday at the Owen County Extension Office.
Class of 1996 reunion reservations deadline is Sunday
The Class of 1996 is finalizing the plans for the reunion. If you plan on attending you need to pay by Sunday. The cost is $35 per person or $65 per couple. OCPS Parent University rescheduled for Monday
Owen County Primary School’s Parent University has been moved to 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 7. Parent University is an orientation for parents of new students, including those entering preschool and kindergarten. Parents who attend will learn more about the attendance policy, separation anxiety and school policies and procedures. Tuesday last day to file in general election
Aug. 8, at 4 p.m., is the last day to file any petition, certificate or statement that must be filed by the second Tuesday in August. Public drawing for ballot positions will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 10 in the Owen County Clerk’s office.
Monterey Baptist Church sponsoring Financial Peace University
Monterey Baptist Church will sponsor Dave Ramsey’s 13-week Financial Peace University beginning Aug. 21 in the church’s fellowship hall. The DVD-taught class will focus on financial management skills that are in alignment with Biblical scriptures. Kits — which include the FPU workbook, all 13 lessons on CD, the book “Financial Peace,” the FPU envelope system, budgeting forms, a bonus CD and two debit card holders — are $95 per family. Class of 1986 to hold 20th reunion Sept. 9
