Governor to cut ribbon, break ground on projects

Kentucky’s governor, Ernie Fletcher, will be in Owenton today to help the community celebrate two milestones — the completion of Hwy. 22 and the groundbreaking of the gas line project.


Hwy. 127 Yard Sale begins Thursday

Local officials encourage safety

August is finally here and with it, the 127 Corridor Yard Sale. Stretching from Covington, Ky., 400 miles south to Gadsden, Ala., it is the longest yard sale in the world and will descend upon Owen County Aug. 3-6.


Cull honored for contributions in medicine to community

Dr. O.A. Cull, a familiar — and perhaps the oldest — face in Owen County’s medical community, was honored Friday with the Dan Martin Award for Lifetime Contribution to Rural Health in Kentucky. The award is given to an individual who has provided many years of service to rural Kentuckians.


Save-A-Lot expected to open in early fall

Applications available Sept. 1

Construction workers have been on site for the past six weeks, earnestly trying to renovate and overhaul the former Webster’s Market into a modernized Save-A-Lot, a national retail grocery chain.


County under heat alert through Thursday

Help available for those who need a cooler place to be

A heat alert issued by Three Rivers District Health Department is extended through Thursday for Owen, Carroll, Gallatin and Pendleton counties. The alert was set to expire Monday, but with a heat wave sweeping the nation, high temperatures and humidity are expected to push the heat indices into the 100-104 degree range.
