Class of 1981 looking for classmates

Class of 1977 planning reunion
The OCHS Class of 1977 is planning its 30th reunion with a tentative date of September 2007 at the Capital Plaza Inn, formerly the Holiday Inn, in Frankfort. Yard sale items wanted

Care Team meeting is today
The Owen County Care Team will meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Owen County Extension office. Finger foods will be provided. Each task force will give a report on the progress it has made since the last meeting and training in Systems of Care 101 will be offered. Any organization that provides social services of any kind to Owen County residents is invited and encouraged to send a representative to the meeting. Class of 1996 to hold planning meeting
The Class of 1996 will be having its 10-year reunion on Sept. 9 at the Capital Plaza Hotel in Frankfort. The planning group will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday to finalize details for the evening. Several classmates are still missing. Historical Society to meet Thursday
Owen County native Sheila Riley, Curator of Collections at The Children's Museum in Indianapolis, will discuss Victorian-era funeral customs at Thursday’s Owen County Historical Society meeting at the Owen County Public Library. Riley will display several objects from her private collection. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a potluck meal followed by the program at 7:30 p.m. Members and those who are interested in becoming members are invited to attend. Annual memberships are $10, and lifetime memberships are $100. For more information about the society, contact President Jeannie Williams at 484-3925.
MBC holding Summer Family Event
Monterey Baptist Church will hold a Summer Family Event Sunday through July 28. Wrapping around a traditional vacation Bible school, the event will provide nightly meals for families; the adult Bible study, “Freedom From Busyness;” and joint activities for adults and children. Each night’s activities begin at 6 p.m. A kickoff Summer Fun Day will be held at the church from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Class of 1971 to hold reunion July 29
The Owen County High School Class of 1971 will hold its 35th reunion July 29 at the Campbell House in Lexington. Contact Stuart Bowling at 484-5916 if you plan to attend.
Library to hold Harry Potter party July 31
The Owen County Public Library will celebrate the birthdays of author J. K. Rowling and her book character, Harry Potter, July 31. Watch the movie “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” on the big screen at 2:00 p.m. Come dressed as your favorite Harry Potter character, eat cake, make crafts and have fun. Enjoy the magic of Ron Mayhew at 6:30 p.m., including a live parrot and rabbit.
Church profile packets due by July 31
Owen County Baptist Association annual church profile packets need to be returned by the end of July to the association clerk, Jed Davis, 371 Caney Church Rd., Stamping Ground, Ky. 40379. The information in these profiles will be presented at the annual Owen County Baptist Association meeting at at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at South Fork Baptist Church and at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at New Liberty Baptist Church.
Back to School Bash is Aug. 1
The Back to School Bash Wild West Roundup will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at Owen County Elementary School. All students in grades preschool through 12th grade are encouraged to attend. There will be various booths and parents will be able to pick up free school supplies. Classroom assignments and school supply lists will be available. There will be games and prizes throughout the evening. A preschool through 5th grade open house will be held form 6:30 to 8 p.m.
British soccer camp is July 31 - Aug. 4
The annual British soccer camp will be held July 31 through Aug. 4 at the Actaris soccer fields. The camp is for ages 3 through 16. For more information, call Delores Dempsey at 484-2649 or Mike Marston at 484-2776.
Freshman transition day is Aug. 3
Freshman transition day at Owen County High School will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 3. The cost is $5, which includes lunch, a T-shirt and some school supplies. Students need to register to participate. Forms can be picked up at the high school. No transportation will be provided.
OCPS Parent University rescheduled for Aug. 7
Owen County Primary School’s Parent University has been moved to 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 7. Parent University is an orientation for parents of new students, including those entering preschool and kindergarten. Parents who attend will learn more about the attendance policy, separation anxiety and school policies and procedures. Aug. 8 last day to file in general election
Aug. 8, at 4 p.m., is the last day to file any petition, certificate or statement that must be filed by the second Tuesday in August. Public drawing for ballot positions will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 10 in the Owen County Clerk’s office.
Monterey Baptist Church sponsoring Financial Peace University
Monterey Baptist Church will sponsor Dave Ramsey’s 13-week Financial Peace University beginning Aug. 21 in the church’s fellowship hall. The DVD-taught class will focus on financial management skills that are in alignment with Biblical scriptures. Kits — which include the FPU workbook, all 13 lessons on CD, the book “Financial Peace,” the FPU envelope system, budgeting forms, a bonus CD and two debit card holders — are $95 per family. Orientation sessions will be held at 5 p.m. July 30 and 7 p.m. Aug. 7.
