Class of 1981 looking for classmates

Class of 1977 planning reunion
The OCHS Class of 1977 is planning its 30th reunion with a tentative date of September 2007 at the Capital Plaza Inn, formerly the Holiday Inn, in Frankfort. Yard sale items wanted
The Project Graduation 2007 will be holding a yard sale to raise funds. Anyone who would like to donate items should call Carol Wooten at 484-3497 or Dianna O’Toole at (859) 643-3428.
Fair passes available
Weekly fair passes are available for $15 and are good for entrance into the Owen County Fair from July 10-15. Carnival rides are not included in the pass. Box seats for events at the main ring are available for $25. Glasses found
A pair of prescription glasses has been found near 513 East Adair St. Pick up at The News-Herald office.
Hesler VBS starts tonight
Hesler Assembly of God invites all children ages 3 to 12 to come travel the Amazing Amazon at their vacation Bible school this week. The adventure begins today at 6 p.m., and continues at that time each evening through Friday. The voyage will conclude at 10 a.m. Saturday with a closing ceremony, outdoor activities, and lunch for the whole family. For further information call 484-0607.
Blood drive is Friday
A community blood drive will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday on the Central Kentucky Blood Center Bloodmobile at the New Horizons Medical Center, 330 Roland Ave. Donors must be 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. A picture ID is also required of all donors. Those participating will be registered to win a summer getaway to Orlando. For more information, contact Lora Vliet at (800) 775-2522.
Class of 2001 to hold reunion
The Class of 2001 will be having its 5-year reunion at 7 p.m. Saturday at Fairway Golf Course in Wheatley. The cost for the reunion is $15 per person and dress is casual. Please contact Leah Patterson at (859) 242-0361 or Samantha Miller at (502) 415-1550 or e-mail OCHS2001@hotmail.com as soon as possible if you plan on attending.
Band boosters to hold car show
The Owen County Band Boosters and Street Art Kustoms will present “Cars, Trucks and Bikes that Make Music Show” Sunday at the Owen County High School. Registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with awards presented at 4 p.m. Registration is $10 per vehicle and vehicles must be registered to be judged. Trophies will be presented in 13 categories. All proceeds are for equipment and travel expenses for the upcoming competition season.
Community worship service is Sunday
The annual community worship service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Fairgrounds main arena. The message will be brought by Bro. Jimmy Gray. The service will be preceded by the county wide potluck dinner in the exhibit building at 5:30 p.m.
MBMS football practice begins Monday
Maurice Bowling Middle School will begin football practice Monday. Practice will be held nightly that week from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on the OCHS football field.
Monterey City Council to meet Tuesday
The Monterey City Council will move its July meeting to Tuesday as a result of the Fourth of July Holiday. The council regularly meets the first Tuesday of each month.
Sports physicals set for July 13
Sports physicals will be available July 13 at the New Horizons Family Practice. Forms need to be picked up at the Owen County High School. Call Jerry Doolin at 484-2985 to reserve an appointment.
Library to show “Eight Below” July 17
The Owen County Public Library will feature the movie “Eight Below” at 2 p.m. July 17. The movie is based on the Antarctic expedition of Dr. Davis McClaren and sled dog trainer Jerry Shepherd. The movie is rated PG and all ages are welcome to attend. No registration is required and the movie is free. Refreshments will also be served. In August, the library will present “Glory Road.”
Golf scramble is July 17
The 11th annual Carroll/Owen County golf scramble at Fairway Golf Course will be held July 17. Tee time will be 8 a.m. All proceeds go to the Kentucky Sheriff’s Boys and Girls Ranch. The fee will be $50 per person. Free dinner and soft drinks are included.
MBC holding Summer Family Event

Monterey Baptist Church will hold a Summer Family Event July 23-28. Wrapping around a traditional vacation Bible school, the event will provide nightly meals for families; the adult Bible study, “Freedom From Busyness;” and joint activities for adults and children. Each night’s activities begin at 6 p.m. A kickoff Summer Fun Day will be held at the church from 2 to 4 p.m. July 22. Class of 1971 to hold reunion July 29
The Owen County High School Class of 1971 will hold its 35th reunion July 29 at the Campbell House in Lexington. Contact Stuart Bowling at 484-5916 if you plan to attend.
British soccer camp is July 31 - Aug. 4
The annual British soccer camp will be held July 31 through Aug. 4 at the Actaris soccer fields. The camp is for ages 3 through 16. For more information, call Delores Dempsey at 484-2649 or Mike Marston at 484-2776.
Freshman transition day is Aug. 3
Freshman transition day at Owen County High School will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 3. The cost is $5, which includes lunch, a T-shirt and some school supplies. Students need to register to participate. Forms can be picked up at the high school. No transportation will be provided.
Monterey Baptist Church sponsoring
Financial Peace University
Monterey Baptist Church will sponsor Dave Ramsey’s 13-week Financial Peace University beginning Aug. 21 in the church’s fellowship hall. The DVD-taught class will focus on financial management skills that are in alignment with Biblical scriptures. Kits — which include the FPU workbook, all 13 lessons on CD, the book “Financial Peace,” the FPU envelope system, budgeting forms, a bonus CD and two debit card holders — are $95 per family. Orientation sessions will be held at 5 p.m. July 30 and 7 p.m. Aug. 7.
