Digging for Treasure

Vacation Bible school at First Christian Church is over for 2006.
However, the memories will not soon be forgotten. Each child learned
Bible verses, songs and valuable lessons about God’s love.
Everyone played and prayed together in one of the best VBSs ever.
A big thanks to all those who helped during the week.
‘Come
Get Fed’ offered
at
MBC
Includes
dinner, VBS, adult Bible study
If you’re
hungry, Monterey Baptist Church wants to offer you a free meal,
an evening of spiritual nourishment and some fun and fellowship
for dessert.
“Many people today find that they are hungry, hungry for
fun and fellowship and spiritual growth in a world that is crowded
with all the things that fill up our days,” said MBC pastor
Tony Watkins. “Come Get Fed is an opportunity for those
in the community to spend a few hours with their family members,
learn what God says about too much ‘busyness’ in our
lives, and share a meal with others at the end of a hectic day.”
Starting July 23, “Come Get Fed” will be presented
at 6 p.m. nightly through July 28 at the church in Monterey. Each
evening will begin with a family dinner, followed by traditional
vacation Bible school activities for children ages 2 through fifth
grade, the Bible study “Freedom From Busyness” for
adults, and a family activity to wrap it all up. There will be
games, prizes and lots of fun activities for all ages.
In addition, on July 22, there will be a Family Fun Day with water
games, a bounce for the kids and other outdoor activities. That
event begins at 2 p.m. at the church and is free and open to the
public as well.
“We wanted to do VBS a little differently this year,”
said Beth Gordon, who is directing the week-long event for MBC.
“We wanted to be able to meet the needs of our church family,
but we also wanted to reach out to others in the community who
are experiencing the same kinds of frustrations we are —
not enough time to do everything we want to do in a day. In this
hurried world, it’s almost impossible to get kids to all
their extracurricular activities, put dinner on the table and
still have time for personal Bible study. This event wraps all
those things together.”
If you need transportation, please call the church at 484-2555
and pick up and delivery will be arranged if possible.
Monterey Baptist Church is a casual, open and welcoming church
where family members can worship together, have fun together and
share their lives. It’s also a place for individuals and
families to belong and to become more like Christ as they work
together for Kingdom growth; a place where those searching can
hear the Biblical truth in the sermons, songs and the weekly study;
and a place where all can live out their relationship with Christ
in community.
Worship services are held each Sunday morning at 11 with baby
and preschool nurseries available. The worship service is preceded
by Sunday School classes for babies through adults. MBC currently
has four adult Sunday School classes: a mixed adults class for
twenty- and thirty-somethings; a topical women’s class and
a traditional women’s class; and a men’s class.
On Wednesday nights, there is Bible study for all age groups.
Adults are currently studying the book of Acts and the organization
of the early church. Family dinner night is held the last Wednesday
of each month.
The church is located in Monterey. From north of Monterey, take
Hwy. 127 S. from Owenton, turn right onto Hwy. 355 and then left
at the first road. Turn right onto Clyde Street and then left
onto High Street. The church is on the left.
If you’re coming from south of Monterey, take Hwy. 127 north
to Hwy. 3523. There is a Monterey Baptist Church sign at the corner.
Turn left onto Clyde Street and then left onto High Street. The
church will be on the left.
