Owen County middle and high school students who think that getting by with a high school diploma or less will make them successful will have the opportunity in the next two weeks to find out there may be other options.
North Key’s KEYS program is presenting a two-week summer program, Focus on the Future. The program began Tuesday with a panel of local business people and will continue Thursday, Tuesday, June 22 and June 23.
“We want to encourage these kids to see what else is out there,” said Tony Watkins, therapist with the KEYS program. “There are 50 slots available and the program is offered at no cost to the families, but it is first-come first-served.”
On Thursday, those participating will tour Gateway College in Northern Kentucky. On Tuesday, the group will participate in the ACT Discover program.
On June 22, they’ll get to take a “Reality Ride,” and finally, on June 23, the group will tour Toyota.
The program starts each day at noon and ends at varied times depending on the day’s activities.
“This program is geared to kids who haven’t had the opportunity to give much thought to a vocation and who are at risk of dropping out of school,” Watkins said. “It will be a self-discovery opportunity.”
Parents of middle and high school students may call 484-4225 for more information or to register students for the remainder of the program.
