Graduation Day

— Photos by MAGGIE WILLIAMS
Owen County High School graduated 116 seniors in ceremonies Saturday afternoon. Above, Tiffany Kemper, Kyle Bruener, Candace Osborne, George Kramer and Trey Knoche flipped their tassels at the end of the ceremony. Right, Teena Lynn, Jessica Wright, Joe Osborne and Anthony Pinson posed for a picture. Valedictorians, Megan Minch and Kayla Meadows gave speeches during the ceremony. Joshua Mears was also a valedictorian. Seniors Lauren Marston, Andrew Gilbert and Salutatorian Ian Gunkler also spoke during the ceremony.

Ceremony a time for reflection

There’s nothing like a graduation ceremony to bring on the waterworks, and that is precisely what happened Saturday afternoon. As another class of seniors imparted on what will be — cliche, I know — their next great adventure, graduates couldn’t help but look back on the last 12, 13, or more years together.

Traditions still include prayer

Fifty-four years ago, the class of 1952 was the first to graduate from Owen County High School. More than half a century later, the class of 2006 proudly marched as the newest installment of Owen Countians ready to set the world on fire.

911 addresses being updated

Map, improved system part

of the project

Owen County is in the process of upgrading the 911 emergency system to provide better and more complete services to its residents.
It has been over a decade since the county underwent a massive 911 update, and this newest upgrade will take Owen Countians “to the next level of addressing,” says Judge-Executive Billy O’Banion.

County museum closer to completion, open house being planned

About $10,000 still needed to bring house up to desired level

It has been a long time coming, but the Owen County Museum — operated by the Historical Society — plans to be open for business by Christmas. That means a significant amount of work has to be completed during the summer and fall months.
