Owen County’s
Boy Scout Troop 891 along with community residents and officials
will hold a Memorial Day service at noon Monday on the Courthouse
Square.
The ceremony will recognize all who have served in the U.S.
military.
In addition, a flag retirement service will be a part of the
ceremony.
Anyone who would like to have a family member mentioned should
contact Cheryl Kaelin at (502) 213-0953 no later than Thursday.
Flags that need to be retired should be brought to the ceremony.
Letters of support and children’s drawings will also be
collected to be sent to those active in the military. Plans
include having a community picture taken on the courthouse steps
to send to all Owen County veterans and active duty military
personnel. If you would life a photo sent to a family member
in the military, provide name and mailing information to Kaelin.
In addition to the ceremony, President George W. Bush has called
for Memorial Day to be a day of prayer for permanent peace and
has designated the hour beginning locally at 11 a.m. as a time
to unite in prayer for the cause. The courtroom at the courthouse
will be open from 11 a.m. to noon for anyone wishing to join
in the prayer.
Also, a moment of remembrance has been designated for 3 p.m.
Residents are encouraged to stop and take a moment to remember
those who have fallen in battle and to make a commitment to
give something back to our communities in their honors.
