offered to Monterey

Grant application in the works

A grant may help residents in Monterey get connected to broadband Internet.
That was one of the main topics of Monday’s e-Community Leadership Team meeting.


A mission to meet needs

Plans for local mission house under way

An inter-denominational effort is in place to organize a mission house for Owen County. In January of this year, after months of individual prayer, some ladies — Kitty Cammack, Teresa Dye, Anita Wainscott, Anna Cook and Cindy Wilhoite among them — gathered at the Associational WMU meeting to hear Bessie and Lester McPeek talk about their ministry in eastern Kentucky. Inspired by the story of a small ministry which has grown into a mission house serving the community, the women realized they had been praying for the same thing.


Library’s summer reading program kicks off Thursday

With showing of the movie “Dreamer”

The Owen County Public Library has the cure for endless summer days. For more than 20 years the library has offered summer programming for children and this summer’s program will expand to include options for teenagers and adults.


Memorial Day, flag retiring
ceremony planned for Monday

 

Owen County’s Boy Scout Troop 891 along with community residents and officials will hold a Memorial Day service at noon Monday on the Courthouse Square.

Nick Hardin likes the simple things in life.
When the 15-year-old Perry Park resident became eligible for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, his first request was to have his truck fixed.
