Cruise In Car show is Saturday
The First Farmers Bank Relay for LIfe team will holding a cruise
in from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday on the Courthouse Square in Owenton.
There will be door prizes, a cake walk, games and entertainment
by Rick Johnson, D.J. Hot dogs, hamburgers and tenderloins will
be grilled and will be available for purchase. All proceeds go
to the American Cancer Society.
MBC Relay team selling Tony’s Bama BBQ
The Monterey Baptist Church Relay for Life team is selling Tony’s
Bama BBQ for the Memorial Day weekend. Family packs are $10 and
can be pre-ordered by calling Patti at 514-3478. The BBQ is perfect
for graduation picnics, family reunions and other get-togethers.
Order by May 24 for delivery on May 26.
Kindergarten, preschool registration is May Friday
Parents interested in enrolling their children in preschool or
kindergarten in Owen County should contact the Family Resource
Center at 484-3595 to make appointments. Appointments will be
taken for registration times from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. Parents
will be told what they need to bring with them when they call
to make their appointments.
Tug-of-War, truck pull is Friday
The Northern Kentucky Tuggers Association will hold a tug-of-war
and truck pull at 7 p.m. Friday at the Owen County Fairgrounds.
Admission is $6. Four classes. $25 entry fee. Scales open at 5
p.m.
Frog Rodeo is Friday
The Fellowship of Christian Hunters is sponsoring a Frog Rodeo
Friday night. A potluck supper will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the
Greenup Fork Baptist Church. Bring a dish, come out and enjoy
the fun and fellowship. The Fellowship of Christian Hunters has
its month meeting the first Tuesday night of each month at 7 p.m.
at Greenup Fork Baptist Church.
DAR to meet Saturday
The John Guill chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution
(DAR) will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Captain John Lillard
chapter and the Simon Kenton chapter at the Holiday Express in
Dry Ridge. The meeting will begin with a catered lunch. Barbara
Castle Pugh, KSDAR state regent, will be the guest. The cost of
lunch is $8.50. Make reservations by calling Peggy Trinkle at
484-5382 before Tuesday.
Movie afternoon at the library planned
The Owen Co Public Library will be having an Afternoon at the
Movies at 3:30 p.m. May 25. The library will be showing “Dreamer”
which is rated PG. Popcorn and drinks will be served. Registration
is required. Call 484-3450to register.
Farmers’ Market opens May 26
The fourth season of the Owen County Farmers’ Market will
begin a 11 a.m. May 26 on the Courthouse Square. The market will
be held each Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch should be available
most weeks. Vegetable vendors from around the area are also expected
to be on hand with a large supply of in-season items.
Cookout for a Cure set for May 26
The annual Cookout for a Cure, sponsored by Owen County Judge-Executive
Billy O’Banion, will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May
26 at the courthouse. This will also be the opening day of the
Farmers’ Market, which is being moved back to the courthouse
lawn this season. All proceeds from the cookout will go to Relay
for Life.
Memorial Day ceremony planned
Boy Scout Troop 891, with the help of the Owen County community,
will be conducting a flag retirement ceremony. The ceremony will
also recognize all who have served in the U.S. military. The event
will take place on Memorial Day, May 29th. Watch for more details
next week. The community is invited to participate in this celebration.
Please submit the name and contact information for veterans and
active duty military by May 24. If you have any U.S. flags that
need to be respectfully retired, please bring them to the ceremony.
Letters of support and children's drawings will be collected to
be sent to military personnel serving away from home. Anyone wishing
to participate in the program or wanting more information may

Rodeo set for June 2, 3
The 3 Bar F Co. will present rodeo and barrel racing at 8 p.m.
June 2 and 3 at 8 p.m. at the Owen County Fairgrounds. Admission
is $8 and proceeds go to the Owen County Search & Rescue.

Gratz Historical Association to meet
The Gratz Community Historical Association will meet at 7 p.m.
June 5 at Norma Jean’s Country Store in Gratz.
GED testing is June 8
The next GED testing date is June 8. Contact the Owen County Adult
Learning Center at 484-0405 to find out more.
Home ownership workshop is June 10
A “Yes You Can Own a Home” workshop will be held from
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 10 at the Owenton City Hall. The program
is free and sponsored by the Northern Kentucky Community Action
Commission and Kentucky Housing Corporation. Registration is required.
