Myrtle H. New, 75, of
Carrollton, died March 1, 2006, at Carroll County Hospital, in
Carrollton. Born Aug. 27, 1930, in Owen County, she was the daughter
of Flossie Roberts Lilly of Warsaw and the late Charles Everett
Moscoe. She attended Carrollton High School, was a homemaker and
a member of United Methodist Church of Carrollton.
Survivors include her mother; four daughters, Vickie Plew, Nancy
Otter and Sharon Dews, all of Carrollton, and Rebecca Franks of
Owenton; three sons, Gary Mefford of Providence and Mike and James
McEndre, both of Carrollton; a sister, Wanda Crawford of Sanders;
three brothers, Larry Moscoe of Carrollton, Thomas Wayne Moscoe
of Paducah and William Michael Moscoe of Texas; 14 grandchildren;
16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by three sons, Dennis Ray, Norman Joe and David
Thomas Mefford; a brother, Alvin Douglas Moscoe; a sister, Lauretta
Outlaw; and a great-grandson.
Funeral services were held March 3 at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home
in Carrollton with the Rev. Robert A. Underwood officiating. Burial
was in Carrollton I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ron Dickow,
Rickie Carter, Bem Richards, Rodney Hawkins, Randy Tharpe and

“Bill” L. Brown, 51
William “Bill” L. Brown,
51, died May 1, 2006, in the California Care Center, California,
Mo., after a short battle with cancer.
He was born June 20, 1954, in Anna, Ill., the son of Oliver E.
Brown, of Jonesboro, Ill., and Golda Howell Brown, of Anna, Ill.
He was a 1972 graduate of A-J High School in Anna, Ill.; received
a bachelor of music degree from Southwest Baptist University,
graduating magna cum laude and receiving the Life Beautiful Award;
and a master of music award from Southwestern Baptist Theological
Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He served with First Baptist Church
of Owenton as minister of music and media, adult choir director
and director of youth and children’s ministry.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Diane
Gibbs Brown; two sons, Ira Jason Brown, and his wife Andrea, and
their children Asa William and Archer Isaac, all of Bolivar, Mo.,
and Aaron Jay Brown, and his daughter Aya Kaelynn Brown both of
Owenton; two brothers Patrick Brown of Jonesboro, Ill. and Michael
Brown of Fairfield, Ill.; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and
several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by maternal
grandparents William and Edna Grace Howell and paternal grandparents
Ira and Maida Zwahlen Brown.
Funeral services were May 4, 2006, in the First Baptist Church
Family Center in California, Mo., with the Rev. Greg Morrow officiating.
Additional funeral services were held May 6 at Anna Heights Baptist
Church in Anna, Ill. with the Rev. Greg Morrow officiating. Burial
was in Jonesboro Cemetery in Jonesboro, Ill.

Dell Gibson, 86
Hazel Dell Gibson, 86, a native of
Owen County, died May 4, 2006, at Hospice of Northern Kentucky
Care Unit in Ft. Thomas.
Born Sept. 20, 1919, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the
late Roy and Rachel Mason Bales. She worked as a cook at the nursing
home in Sanders.
She is survived by two
sons, Roy C. Gibson of Independence and Johnny D. Gibson of Owenton;
11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren;
and six step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Willie Gibson; a son, Robert J. Gibson; and a sister,
Elois Minch.
Funeral services were held May 8 at McDonald & New Funeral
Homes with Bro. David Wotier officiating. Memorial contributions

Herald, 76
Mathew “Arnold”
Herald, a former resident of Crittenden, died May 7, 2006, at
home in Harrison, Ohio. He was born Aug. 14, 1929, in Breathitt
County, one of 10 children.
He was a great fisherman, camper and supporter of the Cincinnati
West and Cincinnati Swish basketball teams.
He is survived by two children, Bert Herald of Crittenden and
Jalia Helcher of Harrison, Ohio; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;
and two brothers, Jess Herald of Grants Lick and Buck Herald of
Highland Heights. He was preceded in death by his wife, America;
two sons, Jim and Tom Herald; sisters Rachel Turner, Linda Turner,
Alpha Herald, Anna Baker, Arizona Herald and Bernette Baker; and
a brother, Elliott “Fud” Herald.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. May 10 at New Macedonia Regular
Baptist Church in Newport. A small graveside service will be held
at the Buck Herald Cemetery.
