After a
year’s absence, the Owen County Farmers’ Market will
start its fourth season back on the courthouse lawn.
“We thought it was better when we had it around the courthouse,”
said Larry Ayres, one of the vendors and organizers of the market.
“We liked the atmosphere better.”
Last year, the market was held in front of the hospital on Wednesday
afternoons and on the courthouse lawn on Saturday mornings. This
year’s market will be held on Fridays, from 11 to 2 p.m.
“We decided it was a much better time and locations for
the vendors and the patrons,” Ayres said, adding that the
plan is to have lunch vendors on hand to serve food each week.
The market opens on May 26. Billy O’Banion’s Cookout
for a Cure will be held that day as well.
Another change includes the addition of vegetable vendors from
Grant and Franklin counties. Ayres said shoppers can expect a
plentiful supply of any vegetable in season once the market opens.
The market will again be taking senior citizen and WIC vouchers.
A training meeting will be held for vendors planning to accept
the coupons at 7 p.m. Monday at the extension office.
