Gas line survives in state budget

Owen County’s $5 million for a gas line project remains in the state budget this week after House and Senate leaders ironed out a compromise budget in conference committee last week.
A new judicial center, valued at $11 million, is also included in the document which will get a final vote from the House when it reconvenes after Spring Break on Monday.
Both Rep. Royce Adams and Sen. Damon Thayer have supported the gas line project since the General Assembly convened in January.
“I went over there with one goal in mind and that was to make sure the gas line was funded once and for all,” Adams said earlier.
“This budget will increase the dollars going to Owen County schools and infrastructure and ensure that our most needy have adequate health services without raising taxes,” Thayer said in a press release issued Monday. “Owen Countians deserve a courthouse that they and future generations can be proud of, and of course, the gas line project was my top priority this session. It is critical to Owen County’s future economic development plans.”
After the final vote b;y the House and Senate next week, Gov. Ernie Fletcher will have 10 days to issue line-item vetoes on any project.
