Mark Baldwin lost the roof and one side of his barn Sunday night to the storm. At 11:30 p.m., Baldwin was out with his tractor pulling the debris from the middle of Ellis Road, where it had landed as part of the storm. Fire department and rescue squad volunteers made their way around the communities checking for downed trees and other items in the roadways after the storm blew through Owen County.


Spring storm sweeps county

Mainly barns and trees impacted; damage spread throughout community

Sitting in the dark, the sounds were frightening.

Gas line survives in state budget

Owen County’s $5 million for a gas line project remains in the state budget this week after House and Senate leaders ironed out a compromise budget in conference committee last week.


Funding to rebuild Monterey dam part of state budget

Would make use of created pool viable option as water resource

Legislators last week included $55 million in the state budget for the reconstruction of three dams and two locks, including the dam and lock at Monterey.


Community being assessed for emergency preparedness


In an effort to make sure Owenton is a secure community to live in, a team from the Kentucky Community Preparedness Program (KCPP) is in town this week to assess the city’s strengths and weaknesses and offer recommendations to improve on safety.
