Katrina Donations

The check represents Owen County’s donation to the Katrina Fund set up at Peoples Bank shortly after the natural disaster in September. McDowell, who lives near Biloxi, Miss., and is the daughter of Betty and Whitey Whitehead of Owenton, then presented the check to Michael Van Winkle, principal of St. Martin Middle School in Ocean Springs, Miss.


Owen projects remain in state budget bill

Money for a gas line project in Owen County, as well as a judicial center for the community, remained in the budget this week after the bill received


Elk Creek Vineyards gets $50,000 for project

Funds will be used to complete

Phase I of winery facility

A local vineyard project got a shot in the arm last month when it received $50,000 from the Agricultural Development Board.


 

Owen 20/20 task forces forming

Six groups to focus on economic develop, land beautification and community services

Members of six task forces that are the result of the Owen 20/20 survey will have until Dec. 15 to develop a recommended plan of action and present that plan to the community.

Owen County sits in the middle of the “Golden Triangle” — a name given to the growing area between Louisville, Lexington and Northern Kentucky. It’s a very inviting peaceful, rural, ridge-top community. Its location and availability of inexpensive, beautiful land has enabled the area to grow to a population of 11,300 as of 2006.
